chapter five ✗ persecución
--
"GET YOUR FUCKING ass back here, Carrillo!" His voice tore through the house, a heavy roar that instilled fear into my very bones. "Get her!"
My eyes widened at the large, seven foot, two hundred and seventy-five-pound man bounding towards me at full speed, with his arms outstretched to grab me and haul my ass back to his boss. I let out a squeak, eyed the wide posture of his legs, and with all of the courage in me and my heart in my throat, I slid on the back of my foot (which I had no idea how I did in my Louboutins), allowing my weight to fall gracefully to the floor and slide directly under him. I wasted no time, standing up and running down the long hallway screeching when another guard randomly came out of one of the rooms, grabbing me by the wrist.
Thinking quick, I lifted my foot, the heel of my stiletto embedding itself into his nether regions, giving him a sharp kick. He groaned and loosened his hand on my wrist, allowing me to take the but of the gun and hit him on the back of the head, making him fall to the ground with a loud thump. "Motherfucker," I heaved, completely out of breath, but I made forced myself to continue running down the long hallway until I found the staircase.
"You're fucking dead, Veronica!" Mateo screamed, "I'm gonna skin you alive, bitch!"
My eyes widened at the sight of him running after me, his face red with anger, a furious vein popping out of the side of his neck. "Hijueputa," I whispered, turning back to run down the staircase, only to see two more guards running up them, directly towards me. I lifted the gun with a meek apology before I clicked the safety off, immediately aiming towards the foot of one and shooting him right in the foot. He let out a shout before tumbling down the stairs, and like a domino effect, he knocked over the guard right behind him.
"Sorry, not sorry!" I yelled, nearly breaking my ankle as I sprinted down the stairs. I could hear his footsteps bounding behind me as I ran towards the front door, and just as I threw it open and was about to make my getaway, he grabbed me by the shoulder. On instinct I spun, aiming the gun towards his face, to which he moved back slightly with his hands up in defence. He was now aware of my determination. He knew I'd shoot him if it came down to it, hence the reason he inched away.
"Veronica," Mateo said my name slowly, his tone hard. "Put the gun down before you start to regret it."
I tightened my hold on the weapon. "You're a fucking talk up, Mateo," I bit out. "There is nothing that would make me regret running away from here and back to my family."
He laughed slightly, "You have two options, gattina. You can stay here like a good girl and be gracious to my kindness towards you, or you can run." He took a long pause, "But the thing about running is that I'll find you. I'll chase your ass down and when I catch you, you're not gonna like it."
