The air was thick, heavier than usual. It felt almost wrong to be outside. Adonijah pulled his sweater closer to his body, assaulted by the cold. The wind whipped and swirled around his body, snatching at his thick, amber hair.

'Something is most certainly off about today.'

The walk to his school passed rather quickly, the vibrantly colored, orange bricks assaulted his vision. Adonijah huffed and slowed, weighing the pros and cons of skipping.

"Adonijah Theon Braxton" the cheerful tone starkly contrasting with the early (and already bleak) November morning.

Groaning, Adonijah turned around to see his best friend. Trey was a tall boy, (at least in comparison to Adonijah) his skin and hair both a deep umber. Trey's eyes were beautiful, at least that's what Adonijah always thought. Slanted, framed by long, thick upturned lashes, and boasting the most amazing onyx pupils, Trey's eyes could always draw you in. Adonijah smirked and continued walking slowly

'Don't do this again Nijah, he's straighter than a republican, gun toting, cattle rancher, in Texas.'

Trey caught up with a huffed breath, a small almost unnoticeable smile tugged at Adonijah's lips, content with the friendship as it was.

"Treyton Lamar Hughes, how the hell are ya?" Adonijah made sure to drag out the last word as obnoxiously as possible. Trey wrapped his arm around the smaller boy's shoulders, scrunching his face in pure disgust. "Call me that again and I'll personally gut you."

Adonijah laughed an honest laugh, walking into the school, and heading toward the lockers he and Trey occupied.

"You literally started it, call me Theon again and I'll strangle you with my bare hands." Trey laughed and let the boy go, Adonijah stood at his locker, collecting his books. "Sounds fair, so how are things with you and that boy I set you up with?" Adonijah looked up, annoyed at his friend's constant meddling in his love life. "We stopped talking, all he wanted was sex and you know I'm not into that kind of thing."

'Lies! You know you're always horny!' Adonijah's brain ran off on its perverse path.

Trey snorted, closed his locker loudly, and slung his knockoff Supreme bag over his shoulder dramatically. Adonijah raised an inquisitive eyebrow, silently prompting Trey to speak his mind.

"All I'm saying is, you're eighteen, a senior, and about to start college in four months." The smaller boy looked at Trey, feeling heat rise on my ears. "You should have gotten that ass clapped years ago Nijah."

Adonijah shifted his gaze from Trey to the ground, 'he is totally right.' As they entered the room and took separate seats, Adonijah spoke up finally.

"You seem hell bent on someone 'clapping this ass', is there something you wanna tell me?"

Trey huffed indignantly yet hummed approvingly under his breath.

'I heard that'

Adonijah's mind quipped before he could fully control it.

"I'm not saying I'm gonna be the one to do it, but you could have your choice of almost any guy in the city. First, you're cute, smart, and you have a weird but oddly adorable sense of fashion."

Adonijah looked at his oversize sweater, dirty white high-top chucks, and noted that the outfit was pulled together by black skinny jeans. "Oddly adorable, I'm not sure if that was an insult of a compliment Trey." The taller boy laughed loudly and pulled the other's hand under his own. The contact made Adonijah's body buzz with electricity.

"Take it however you want princess."

"Princess", Trey has never called me princess. Adonijah blushed harshly and removed his hand gently, Trey's face almost seemed to fall from the loss of contact.
