In the hospital, Jimin spent the first couple hours with Taehyung. Yoongi had stopped by to bring him some snacks and a new change of clothes. Yoongi told him he'd pick him up in the morning. Jimin really wasn't hungry. He just watched Taehyung binge-eat. When the nurse came to inject him with more pain medicine for his broken leg, Jimin stayed until Taehyung fell asleep to go check on the other boys. They are expected to make a full recovery psychically as well, but mentally and emotionally was a different story.
When he visited Jeongguk, he was awake for the first time Jimin has seen him. He was beaten badly, and some wounds were even infected.
"Hey," Jeongguk said, voice rough probably from the lack of speaking, "you're Jimin, right?"
Jimin nodded before asking, "Mind if I come in?"
Jeongguk gave him a small smile before nodding his head and going back to his meal.
"How are you doing?" Jimin asked him and Jeongguk just chuckled as Jimin made himself comfortable in the hospital chair.
"I guess okay for someone who was usually unconscious in some auto place for like four months."
Jimin knew that was Jeongguk's attempt to lighten the mood, but Jimin really didn't feel it.
"How's Tae?" Jeongguk asked, a hopeful look in his eyes.
"He's well, sleeping at the moment, but mostly, he's just worried about you," Jimin explained, giving him a polite smile.
"Really? I-I broke his heart. He--" Just then, the nurse came in and said,
"The police would like to spend some time alone with Jeongguk now."
Jimin left the room. He was unable to visit Jin because he was in a medically-induced coma to keep from lashing out at anyone who touched him. It was sad. Taehyung had told Jimin just how wonderful a person Jin was and how the things that happened to him would change his life forever. He had to go to an institution after he was finished recovering and he was addicted to meth and heroin and who knows what else.
About nine in the morning, Yoongi had arrived for Jimin, who slept in Taehyung's room. He shook him awake. "Come on, 'Min. Let's get you home."
Jimin had muttered something but sat up anyway and followed Yoongi to the check-out desk. Jimin told the nurse he'd return tomorrow to check up on the boys.
When they were in Yoongi's car on the way home, it was awkward for a little while before Jimin asked, "Why?"
Yoongi sighed, gripping the steering wheel a little harder, "I-I didn't do it because I wanted to, Jimin."
"What the hell do you mean 'because you didn't want to?'"
Yoongi's palms were sweaty. He knew this conversation would have to happen.
"Namjoon and I have known each other since we were kids. He was, like, my best friend. We were as close as you were to Tae."
Jimin kept his eyes on Yoongi, watching his facial expressions. He could finally decipher them at that moment.
"He, uh, was madly in love with you if you couldn't tell, and I did everything I could to keep him away from you. But h-he'd get mad and frustrated with me when I wouldn't tell him where you lived or anything. He'd beat me, threatening to kill me but I knew he wouldn't because I was the only person he knew that could tell me where you are. At least until Tae hired him."
"But what does--" Jimin took a deep breath, "Why did he kidnap so many people?"
"Namjoon is a sick fuck. I've known that since we were teenagers when he would set things on fire and kill helpless animals. He's a sociopath. He kidnapped people simply because he couldn't make friends, so he forced them. Hoseok was first. Namjoon wasn't even of age yet when he led teenage Hoseok away. I was the only person he told. Me, being the stupid kid I was, didn't even think to call the police or tell my mom. I didn't know how serious that really was." It was beginning to rain so Yoongi turned the windshield wipers on as he stopped at a traffic light.
"What about Seokjin and Jeongguk? Why did he take them?" Jimin asked, sympathy for the older swimming in his gut.
"He took them because they knew Taehyung, and Taehyung knew you. He was too scared to take Taehyung, so he took two of his other closest friend's. He only knew them because of the stories Tae told at the bookstore."
"Stupid Tae," Jimin muttered as Yoongi continued,
"And I'm sure you know why he took Tae. So he could get closer to you."
Jimin scowled, body shuddering at the thought of what Namjoon could've done to him.
When Yoongi stopped at a traffic light again, he turned to Jimin. "I need you to understand I only did what I had to, to protect you. I wasn't going to let him hurt you the way he could've. I tried so hard to keep those boys safe, but Namjoon was so much stronger than me, so the only thing I could do was tend to their wounds and make sure they were safe. I promise you, Jimin. I didn't do it because I enjoyed it or I wanted to like he did, but because I was scared for your life and theirs."
Jimin couldn't stand the intensity of Yoongi's gaze so he looked down at his hands. "I-I'm sorry I didn't give you the chance to explain earlier," Jimin muttered, looking up at Yoongi who was driving once again.
"You only did what you thought was right, Jimin. I can't be mad at you for that," Yoongi told him.
Jimin reached over to take Yoongi's hand that was reaching for the radio in his. Yoongi looked over at him in shock but Jimin only gave him a shy smile.
They spent the rest of the car ride talking about their interviews with the police and anything that would lighten the heavy weight on their hearts.
