Leon Osiris Dillard.
Charcoal black eyes blinked back at me as I looked in the mirror. Sinister and grim. A look I'd tried to conceal often. They looked even darker with the thick black lashes that surrounded them. My dark almost black reddish hair stuck to my forehead and neck letting water fall from it and onto my skin steaming all around me. I grabbed a towel and dried away the water rubbing my face and body in the process. I took deep breaths and thought about the coming week. My birthday would fall on this Friday and my nerves aroused at the thought of what's to come. My stomach dropped in anticipation.
Five days.
I turned up the music blaring from my radio and sang along to 'Sixteen Saltines' by Jack White. As I sang I went to my closet putting on a pair of white Calvin Klein's and pulling some dark blue jeans on. I found my black nirvana band tee and pulled my black leather jacket over top. The heat from my body surrounded me and made my skin start to tingle. The warmth gave me energy. It was strange how comfortable I'd become in the blistering heat of Florida.
In the beginning of the school year a leather jacket didn't seem to be enough to keep my body radiating as it should. The chilled air nipping at my cheeks and bare fingers. Now that it had been a few weeks the air had grown colder requiring warmer clothing that often made me look strange as I strode into class with jeans and my leather jacket; the normal attire remaining, comprised of shorts, tees, and pony tails.
I grabbed my backpack and sector nine and rushed out the door to my school only a few miles away. I rolled down the road bobbing my head along with the music coming from my headphones. I made it to school faster than I would have liked and locked my long board in my locker grabbing the stuff I'd need for the day. The bell rang just as I walked in the door and I instantly took my seat in the far back quietly reading the assignment pre placed on the desktop.
It was a simple calculus worksheet and I plugged out the problems. When I was about halfway done the door to my class opened up.
I kept my focus on my paper suspecting it was simply a student going to the bathroom or getting water. That was until the teacher asked for the classes attention.
"Everyone! I want you to meet our new student Aurora. She's just moved here from Alaska." The principal stood at the door talking to someone who still stood out of view.
I looked around the room for empty seats hoping there were some away from me but quickly realizing that was not the case. This class was already pretty full meaning the last available desk was the one to my right.
I sighed. Time to make nice with a new girl.
"I'm Mrs. Baker it's nice to meet you Aurora. You can take a seat right next to Mr. Dillard."
I watched as my polar opposite walked in the door.
She was short and frail looking with irises that appeared nearly white with frost and rimmed with a thick blue circle. Her eyelashes were dark and thick looking like a natural eyeliner deepening the mysterious look in her eyes. Her hair was white blond falling in waves over her shoulders pinned to the side exposing her long pale neck. Her skin looked like porcelain that would appear white as snow next to my dark tan skin. Her lips were plump and pink looking soft and delicate.
She was perfect. Pale and petite with thin yet toned arms and a curvy figure. She shyly walked back to her desk not even looking at me when the teacher called me out. I couldn't help but to feel slighted. Every one around her gave her looks of curiosity and the girls looked on her with envy. She was a natural beauty that they couldn't compare to. One girl who sat right of her was the only one who seemed unfazed by her looks.
