I stared out the car window, watching the houses disappear and trees take their place. Soon enough, we were on the highway, heading to the First Niagara Pavilion out in Burgettstown. For some reason, he liked to take the long way to get to the little county. He still hadn't told me who we were going to see. Usually, this would panic a girl into thinking the worst. Of course that was on my mind, but it wouldn't be worse than what I'd already gone through with guys.
Darius. That was the boy's name, or so he told me. We didn't talk much, possibly my fault. I didn't really feel like talking to anyone, including him.
After about ten minutes, I noticed a police officer in front of us, motioning for us to turn right. As Darius turned the car, a long line of colorful, plastic flags guided us down the path, standing next to the road. I couldn't help but feel a bit giddy. We were going to a concert with people who liked what we liked.
Or what I guessed that we both liked, at least.
The pavement turned into gravel as Darius drove to the parking lot. We passed many people who were resting in the bed of pickup trucks. There were a variety of people there. Twelve year old scene girls and boys, band sluts, who seemed older than me, but I never trusted make up and low amounts of clothing.
Along with them were the emo kids, who said nothing to anyone around them, grown men and women dressed in dark clothing and had a beer in their hands, and then there were the parents of the kids whom they didn't trust on their own. I chuckled at how some looked absolutely bored and others were frightened by the people around them.
For a moment, I was afraid that we were here to see Blood on the Dance Floor. Trust me, I don't care if people liked them, that's their thing and I'm not one to judge. I just heard many rumors about Dahvie Vanity that I found out were true when he stalked and tried to have sex with a friend of mine a few years ago...when we were fourteen.
My fear seemed to vanish when I began to notice black paint and lines drawn on people's faces. Many had drawn a line of stitches that reached from the corner of their mouth to the back of their jaw. I recognized that as the signature stitches of Andy Biersack when their first album, We Stitch These Wounds, came out. My eyes shot to Darius, who wore a smirk as he pulled into an open spot.
"Are you serious?" I asked, my voice cracking a bit. Darius chuckled and nodded, turning off the car and pulling the keys from the ignition. We sat there in silence for a while, my eyes not leaving his. After a bit, he chuckled and crossed his arms.
"What?"
"We just met, barely know each other, and you brought me to a Black Veil Brides concert." Darius smiled more at my words and shrugged. I shook my head, letting a toothy grin show. "I could kiss you for this." Darius let out a loud laugh, his cheeks burning red.
"That's very sweet, but I don't swing that way," he replied as he opened his door and stepped out of the car. I mentally smacked myself across the face. Darius was gay.
Seriously did not see that one coming.
I got myself out of the car and looked around. The sun blazed above us, making me regret the amount of black I wore that day. I could hear people's conversations more clearly. Many were very excited over getting to see their favorite band. It was amusing to listen to the parents, bored or scared. A few cars down, I noticed a boy and girl sitting on the hood of their brown Grand Prix. The girl looked dressed and excited for the occasion. On the other hand, the guy who sat next to her looked disgusted.
"I can't believe how many fags are here," the boy snapped at the girl. I felt my hand ball up into a fist at my side as my other hand tightly gripped the car door. The girl smacked the boy lightly on the arm.
