Whitney left the Vic after Mick told her to go. Aidan had already beaten Mick and Whitney had to do something. Halfway telling Aidan he gave Mick the money hadn’t worked so Whitney made a phonecall to Jack. Asking him to come and help Mick. Jack told her he would come right away and get some help. Next Whitney called Linda and Shirley and told them what she had seen.
There was one other person she needed to call. She knew he couldn’t do anything but he had the right to know what was going on. She hadn’t talked to Lee since he’d sent the divorce papers. She wasn’t really sure where to begin, so she asked him what he knew about the problems in the Vic. He knew surprisingly little and was stunned when Whitney quickly filled him in. Whitney was still on the phone with him when she saw Phil punch Aidan, causing him to fall back inside the Vic.
Whitney: it’s okay. I think it’s going to be alright.
Lee: what do you mean? What’s happening?
Whitney: Phil just punched Aidan. I think he will sort things out.
Lee: I need to sort some things out over here and then I will come back to the square. Don’t tell my parents I’m coming alright? I don’t want them to make a fuss.
Whitney: are you sure? I mean it’s handled now.
Lee: I’m sure. I want to know why they kept this from me.
Whitney got of the phone with Lee and went back home.
The next day Whitney went to the Vic to see if it was open yet. The door was open and when she went in she couldn’t hold back her gasp when she saw the state Mick was in. Aidan had beaten Mick up pretty good and he had the bruises and cuts on his face to show for it.
Mick: hey Whit. It looks worse then it is, believe me.
Whitney: you sure? Cause it looks pretty bad from where I’m standing.
Mick: I want to thank you for your help yesterday. You didn’t have to.
Whitney: of course I did. And besides, Halfway asked me to go.
Mick: oh. So that’s the only reason then?
Whitney: no.
Mick wanted to ask what other reason there was, when Linda walked in.
Linda: Mick! They’ve broken a lot of glasses and I don’t know…oh, hi Whitney. What are you doing here?
Whitney: I just came to see if you needed a hand cleaning up.
Linda: thank you. Yes, we need all the help we can get.
Mick: I was just thanking Whitney for helping yesterday.
Linda: oh yes, of course. Thank you Whitney.
Whitney: I was glad I could help. What can I do for you now?
Linda: could you sweep up all the glass in the kitchen? And see if you can count how much we lost.
Whitney got to work and after getting the larger pieces gone first, she swept up all the other pieces before she was going to use the vacuum. She saw another piece in the far corner but when she tried to pick it up, she cut herself.
Whitney: ouch! Damnit!
Tina: you alright Whit?
Whitney: no. I just cut myself.
Tina: Mick! We need the first aid kit!
Mick: what are you shouting about?
Tina: Whitney cut her hand, I’m taking her upstairs.
Mick followed and after Whitney sat down, he told Tina he would see to her. Tina went back down and Mick carefully checked to see if there was any glass in Whitney’s hand. He then gently cleaned the cut. It wasn’t a big cut so it wouldn’t need stitches. Mick bandaged Whitney’s hand and held her hand a bit longer then was necessary.
Mick: Whit. Why did you come yesterday? You knew what was going on. Why did you put yourself in danger?
Whitney: I couldn’t let this Aidan kill you now could I? And you know he would have.
Mick: yeah, but Whit..
Whitney: no, let’s not talk about it anymore okay?
Mick looked at Whitney and was humbled that after everything that had happened between them, she would still look out for him. Just as he was about to say something, a commotion downstairs drew his attention.
Linda: MICK! GET DOWN HERE!
Mick: now what?
Mick rushed downstairs and Whitney followed him in a slower pace. She thought she already knew what was going on and when she heard the happy sounds, it confirmed it. Lee had arrived.
Mick was surprised to see Lee. They hadn’t really talked since he left for Dover. He wasn’t sure how he felt about seeing him now. Linda was overjoyed of course and for the first few minutes Lee couldn’t get a word in.
Lee: mum, mum! Stop. It’s good to see you too, but I want to know how you’re all doing after everything that happend.
Linda: what are you talking about? What do you know?
Lee: I think I know everything. The freehold being sold, Weyland, you getting it back, Aidan. Is there more?
Linda: oh. Um..no, I think that about covers it.
Lee: I can’t believe you didn’t tell me you were in trouble. I had to hear it from someone else.
Mick: who told you then?
Whitney: I did.
