Noah runs of the bus, Mia behind him. Without eye contact, the two part ways into there houses. Living next door for years, they never talked. Maybe nods from time to time, subtle. Mia felt something very bad was going to happen today. Walking into there houses, they each picked of there mail, almost perfectly in sync with each other. That was how it is with them.

They each rubbed there feet on the mat in front of there doors, each unlocked there doors. The moment was broken as Mia dropped her keys, the mail flying. Noah notices and runs over, helping her. He hands her the mail, gives her a grin, and walks off. Well there motions were the same, there walks are unique. Noah, tall and thin, with brown locks of hair, paired with green eyes, walls laid back. Mia, with dark curly hair and freckles, chubby and short, walks tall and seriously.

She freezes, blushes, and walks into her home, and misses her parents. There out of town, for work. She walks upstairs, works on homework, and microwaves some leftovers.

As Noah walks into his home, he is greeted by his drunk father asleep on the couch, and his mother working on the old laptop she got on e-bay. Noah pours a glass of water. He walks over to his Mom and puts it next to her, and her fold out desk. She smiles and pecks him on the cheek. As he goes to walk away, he hears his father get up and stalk over to Mom. He reaches for the water. knocking it over onto her laptop.

"No!" she shouts "All that work...it took me all day..." As she turns to yell at him, he begins to cackle.

He tumbles up the stairs, leaving them.

Mom growls softly under her breath, and begins to cry.

Noah hugs her.

He sighs, and throws out the laptop. Climbing up the stairs, he finishes up homework, grudgingly. Taking nap, he allows his eyes to close.

As Noah awakes, voices echo from downstairs. One voice in rage. One in pain. He tumbles downstairs, and sees it. His own mother, hurt. He can't look. He knows he's next. He runs the house next door. Mia, his only escape.

A light knock on her window startles Mia awake. She looks. Her neighbor, Noah, dangles by her window, face red from tears.

Please, he mouths.

Mia runs and opens it. He falls into her arms.

"Shh, explain, Noah." She says calmly.

"My parents..." He sobs, and explains everything.

He looks broken.

For the rest of the night they play board games. She calls the police, and they show up. After that, the night ends. Noah leaves, his father now in custody. Once at the door, he kisses her on the cheek. She blushes.

Deep down, she knows this is not there last meeting.

I will see you again, Noah. Mia thinks to herself. If one fateful night changes my future, so be it.
