Chapter 1:
The first thing I see when I walk out of the airport is the sign. Freedom Falls. The sign means to be free, but that is the last thing this town is. It is the place I was born in and meant to grow old in, but I have bigger dreams for myself than that. That is why I have been in a boarding school in London for the last seven years. But then my precious mother decided that I needed to finish my senior year here in the last place in the world I ever wanted to be. I would have rathered finished my senior year in London, not in Freedom Falls, Utah.
But before I go on and on about how I hate and despise this place, I should probably tell you more about myself. Well first my name is Skylar Jackson I have long blonde hair and green eyes. I have my belly button pierced and a tattoo of a butterfly on my right shoulder blade. A butterfly to me represents everything this town is not. I also have a fraternal twin brother named Scott. My mom and dad got divorced seven years ago, which is the reason I went to London in the first place. Now my dad is remarried to my bitch of a step-mom Kim. She is the basic money-grabbing bitch. But one thing I can’t wait for is to see my best friends in the whole world Maria, Emma, Nikki, and my boyfriend Cole. We have been dating for three years now.
As my taxi pulls up to the front of my house - or should I say mansion - I feel butterflies start in my stomach, but it’s not like I haven’t been home in seven years. I come home every summer, or at least try to. As I get my luggage from the back of the taxi, I notice that no one comes out of the house to greet me. It’s so odd because my family is crazy. I open the front door and all the lights are off. Then I hear someone scream “SURPISE!” I almost have a heart attack as I am hugged like someone that’s been lost at sea for seven years instead of at school.
As everyone runs and hugs me, they all say how much they’ve missed me and such. We all party and have fun, but then everyone has to leave since senior year starts tomorrow. I notice that one person hasn’t shown up yet and that is my dad and his bitch of a wife. But then, as everyone that doesn’t live here leaves, I see them walk through the front door. She has on a big pink coat on that looks quite odd if you ask me, for summertime at least. My dad hugs me and says, “Skylar, Kim and I would like to share something with you.”
“Ok,” I said hesitantly.
“We’re pregnant; you’re going to have a little brother or sister in three months,” Dad said.
“WHAT?!?!” I screamed angrily.
“Yeah, isn’t that great Sky?” Kim asked.
“No, that isn’t great, you money grabbing bitch,” I said with a snarl.
“SKYLAR, that wasn’t necessary,” Dad said.
“Don’t worry dad. The kid probably isn’t even yours to begin with,” I said.
“That is no way to speak to Kim,” Dad said.
“Well, if you have something wrong with the way I’m speaking to your bitch of a wife, then I think you should leave,” I said directly.
“We are,” Dad said sadly.
After they left, mom came down and hugged me and told me to get to bed because I have school in the morning. So I went up to the pink, purple, and black room to change into my pajamas and go to sleep. I slept like a baby that night. I was rudely awakened by my brother, who, unluckily for me, is an early riser. So I get up and take a shower. I put on my sequined shirt, white shorts, and black wedged heels, before doing my hair and make-up. I kissed my mom on the cheek, jumped in my lime green Camaro convertible, and raced to school. I tried my best not to get a speeding ticket…which was a fail.
