Chapter 1: Today Has Been A Shitting Me Day.
"Kaycee-Ann Valentine! Get up! You're gonna be late to day of school!"
Best way to wake up is with your mother banging on my door and yelling. Right? God, this woman has some serious vocals. I rolled out of bed which lead to me falling flat on the floor, "Ow." I muffled on the ground.
I stood up, and rubbed my eyes. My mother kept on banging on the door, I finally opened it to reveal her smiling.
"Mom, I have an alarm clock that's set to a time. I don't need your voice to wake me up."
"Sweetie, you were almost late yesterday. I don't want my daughter to be late again." she crossed her arms.
I looked back at my alarm clock and school doesn't start in 2 hours. I mentally groaned, and stared at her blankly.
"That's an 'almost', mom."
She shushed me and told me to get ready for school. God, sometimes I just wanna attack my mom with not-so nice words. I love her, but she can be the most irritating person in the world.
I went with a black and white striped crop top, acid washed denim high waisted shorts, and some old white converse. My hair black hair was at it's natural state which was straight. I applied my usual light make-up, and headed off to school.
I grabbed my keys from my night stand, and grabbed my school bag. I took a cardigan out of my closet, just in case it gets chilly later.
I went downstairs to see my mother in the kitchen, and my step-dad reading the newspaper at the table.
My biological dad left my mother when my little brother was 7 and I was only about 11. I don't know why, but I've never questioned it. It would always be a sensitive topic for her, so I dropped it and lived on with my life. I'm 18 now, and that was almost 7 years ago. My stepdad, whom I deeply hate with a passion, is an asshole. But, my mother "loves" him. And I quote: "loves" him. I honestly think that my mother is scared to be alone, so she hides what she actually feels and acts like their love is true.
I vaguely remembered when my mother went on her business trips, my brother and I would stay with our step-dad. He would abuse us, put all his anger at us and use us as punching bags as well. As an older sister, I stepped up and he'd hurt me instead of hurting my little brother. When my mother came home, she'd see me with bruises and cuts. I would have to say I fell off my bike or make a believable excuse. If I say the truth, he'd hurt me again. Till this day, she has no clue at all.
When she leaves to go to her business trips, he'd hurt me again. Luckily for me, I know how to cover it up well with make-up. I know it seems wrong for me to hide this huge situation, but I'm doing this for the sake of my mother feelings.
"I'm going now. I'll pick up Noah from basketball practice," I yelled out.
"No need, honey. He's gonna stay over at his friends house." My mother replied. "Be safe!"
I nodded at her, and left off. I unlocked my car door and threw my stuff in the back, before I even got to start my car; my phone rang.
Shawty got that apple bottom jeans.
Boots with the fur. With the fur.
Got the whole club lookin at her.
And that my friend, is a ringtone that's set for one of my best friends.
"Yes, Jocelyn?"
"SOS."
"What? What's going on?"
