Boys.

The sun was finally setting at about eight o'clock. We had been waiting ALL DAY for the sun to hide away so we could responsibly light things on fire. By we, of course, I mean my friends Leah, Emery and I. Summer had only just started, and we were pumped about actually being allowed to have a little fire in Leah's backyard. Leah spun Emery around on the spray painted tire swing against his will as I rested up against the old tree that held the swing up. Occasionally, I'd have to duck so I didn't get knocked out by Emery's thrashing feet or even the tire itself. The patchy grass beneath me was a bustling bug metropolis, and so I'd also have to swat or squish the wandering bug that just so happened to find my tanned legs. Oh well though, at least I'm not in school.

Avery and his friend pull up into the side of the yard and jump out with bundles of wood. Avery is Leah's older brother. I don't talk to him much but he is pretty okay, if you ask me. He has a killer sense of humor and pretty eyes. He nods to us and heads around back. We are all quick to follow him, but careful not to step in dog crap. Leah's yard was a literal war zone.

Avery successfully gets the fire started and we all pull up chairs. All except Leah who decides to sit up near her house so she can connect to her wifi and talk to her asshole boyfriend. I look back and offer, but of course, she's 'not up to it'. That  means her asshole is acting like a nice guy and she is too busy swooning to come chill with us. You know what that means though? I'm stuck in the middle of three boys. Fucking boys.

Let's get this straight, I'm not really into guys. See, that was a pun. Because I'm such a lesbian.

Or so I thought.

Collin leans over to show me some stupid vine of a girl twerking. I shake my head and laugh at him slightly. I don't actually give a half a fuck and I really don't like him but I smile anyway because I'm a nice person. Avery chuckles because he KNOWS I don't like Collin at all.

"Sylvie?" Collin looks over with an unsettling smirk on his face.

"Whaaaaaaaaat"

"You should, you know, show me your boobs."

I literally spit out my fucking water everywhere. I know this guy was a straight forward perverted asshole but dude, That was sudden. I look up, clearly disgusted. "I'm sorry...What?"

"You should, you really should." He urges again, clearly teasing.

"Hmm" I sit there and act like I'm actually considering it. "How about...Go fuck yourself?"

Avery just dies. I mean he was wheezing and everything. I was concerned for a moment because I was 100% sure he was going to die.

Collin is also in a bit of a laughing fit. But he is stupid so I don't care. He manages to calm down and then proceeds to give me the "pretty please" look.

And again, I tell him to go fuck himself. I also remind him I don't like to repeat myself while I'm at it. Emery is just grinning at the two guys like they were idiots. Well, they're idiots but whatever.

Even Leah is laughing. Leah doesn't just laugh at things like that, so I was pretty shocked.

I turn my attention back to the crackling fire that was warming my body. It's glow made me smile like a child. I always loved fire, It made me feel so free and light-hearted. As I watch the flame fall and rise, the two guys talk about the girls in school they would hook up with. I don't pay attention because I'm not interested in those girls AND I already have a girlfriend anyway, so it wouldn't really matter. The thought of her makes me miss her like crazy because we are long distance. I sat back in the broken lawn chair, lost in thought. I don't really mind the boys anymore.

"Sylvieeee" Avery poked my side, getting my full attention back, "What time were you supposed to be home?"

I honestly had no idea and so I just gave him a half-hearted shrug.

"Well" He smiled slightly. "If you've got the time, you want to see my new lizard?"

"Lizard?" I chuckled. Hell yeah I want to see a lizard! Lizards are rad.

He nods his head and motions for me to follow him. By now I had realized that everyone had kinda left or went inside, so It was just those two boys and I. I followed those two boys, and Avery did have a lizard. A very cool looking lizard. I watched it until Avery motioned me into his room. I don't think he realized the time at all. It was nearly eleven thirty.

I follow him quietly, I can't really tell if his mom is asleep or not but it doesnt matter because nothings happening between us three anyway. Of course, Collin make suggestive and perverted jokes in an attempt to win me over but I ever so kindly tell him to go fuck himself anyway because I'm not interested at all. I also remind him I have a girlfriend. Of course, he is STILL persistant.

Boys.

I look up at the clock. It's almost twelve, and I really have to get going. I wave goodbye and make my way downstairs. Leah's mom waves goodbye too (I guess she was up)  and I finally get out. I live only about a block from Leah and Avery, so it doesn't take me too long to get home. I really just wanted to be home and in my bed.

After the fairly short walk down the road, I face my front door. All the lights are out in this little one story, tan coloured house. I quietly open the white door and slip inside, making sure to be extra quiet. I make my way to my room and fall on the bed. I don't even bother to change, I just kinda drift off right there, thinking about my girlfriend and boys and that warm feeling of crackling fire and Leah's tire swing...

And boys.
