Prologue

Darkness, it's black tendrils engulfed the whole world. Complete darkness. Everyone was thrust into this world of death and suffering, they had no choice. It was either struggle on. Or die. I'm Joe and this is my story on how I managed to survive the madness. Experiencing the zombie apocalypse certainly brought some things to light, and after what seemed like a lifetime of zombies I was certainly a changed person. But at least I managed to hold onto one thing: my sanity. The same can't be said for some people I met, but that doesn't matter now. The day was the 15th of February 2015. The day the whole world watched the streets, watched the news, watched itself. The day we believed that this was it. The day that not only the world ended: but it was replaced with a blood soaked, hellish war zone full of people we once knew. Once loved. We were torn apart; we weren't ready. Governments fell, the power went off, laws were abandoned, chaos erupted and everyone died. It's kind of funny. In a sick, twisted way. We survived the meteor, we survived evolution. An ice age; two world wars, the nuclear bomb-we even went to space. We harnessed electricity, we broke the sound barrier and even learnt to defy gravity. But we pushed too far, our inventions and experiments pushed the boundaries. So that one little miscalculation in a small research facility was all it took. The human race fell. 7,359,506,447 people died within the short space of just a few months. Apart from us; we're still here, and that is owed to some extremely brave young boys. This is my story, this is their story; the story of the human race's defeat. This is the story of the end. The end of life as we know it.
