She laughed liked everyone else. She smiled, talked, and thought like everyone else but she had been born different. She was born intersex. That means that she was born with both male and female body parts. Her parents had chosen to raise her as a boy. Her name at birth had just simply been Cody. She wanted to come with a way to make it more feminine sounding but she liked it as a nickname. So Codyiak it was. She decided this for herself when she was around eleven years old. Her parents told her no. They did that a lot. Told her dresses were for girls. She couldn't be a princess for Halloween she was to be a knight or a king or a prince. A doctor she decided. She would be a doctor. Both boys and girls could be doctors. No they said. You have to be a boy thing. Her parents were very strict and also religious. They didn't know anything about her. Nothing but her body. Why do people always judge for bodies?? This is a question she'd been asking since she was a little boy. "Why does my body matter?", she would ask her parents almost daily and always angry or sad and always always in tears. Her parents would turn their backs and tell her to man up and stop acting like a girl. Anyway today was the day she decided. Today she would tell her parents she was her own girl not the boy they had chosen her to be...

She walked downstairs slowly. Her adopted parents who had raised her from infancy were sitting in the living room watching their new show "3%".

"Mom? Dad?" I said slowly walking into the room.

"What's up Cody?" Mom asked pausing the show.

"Umm...I..uh wanted to talk to you guys about something..." I wasn't quite sure how to start this conversation and I was crazy nervous. My sophomore year was almost over and I still had two more years of high school I didn't know what I would do if they kicked me out...

"Okay?" Dad asked confused. He sucked at picking up emotions. "Is everything alright C-dog?"

I rolled my eyes. "Dad you know I hate it when you call me that."

"Just tell us wants going on Cody." Mom said getting irritated at mine and dad's procrastination.

"Okay...so I wanted to talk to you guys about something that's been going through my head for awhile..." I said slowly.

"Look Cody just spit it out aleady." Mom had started to raise her voice. "Enough with the games just tell us what's going on."

"Calm down honey." Dad said logically.

"Okay sorry you're right. Go ahead Cody." Mom said still sounding slightly annoyed.

"Okay so I wanted to talk to you guys about my gender..." I said cautiously.

"Oh my god this again? Come on Cody we've been over this. You are a boy because that's what we chose for you to be." Mom said irritated again as she tried to get get up and walk away.

Dad grabbed her arm gently. "Honey wait let's just hear him out okay?"

"Fine!" She sat back down with a huff.

"Thank you. Now. I want to present as a girl. I know I know you raised me as a boy you want me to be a boy but it just doesn't feel like me..." I explained sadly.

"I understand son." My dad said supportively.

I perked up. "Thanks dad." I said smiling. I looked nervously at my mom...

"I...I'm sorry." Mom said hesitantly. "But I can't have a transgender child. You were born the way you were born and that's that Cody."

"I WAS BORN INTERSEX NOT AS A BOY!!!" I screamed at her. "That means I get to choose!" I ran upstairs to my room slamming my door behind me. I could hear my parents talking downstairs. My dad trying to talk around my mom and my mom slowly getting louder. I did NOT want to listen to them argue AGAIN. I put in headphones and fell asleep listening to Post Malone's Candy Paint.
