Ethan x Intruder

I awoke with a startle, my body shaking, heart dropping in response to my front door closing with a thud.

I instinctively reached my hand over to the space in my bed beside me, feeling around for Ethan. Just as I felt an empty bed, I remembered he decided to sleep at his own apartment tonight; Grayson getting mad that he was never around anymore.

My heart starts to thump harder in my chest, realizing that someone has probably just broken in, and I had no way to protect myself.

'What would Ethan do?', I kept thinking to myself, my eyes quickly scanning my room for something to use as a weapon. My lips were parted, my breathing laboured as I started to panic, tears filling my eyes as I tried to focus on what I could do.

I swore I heard light footsteps over my heavy breaths. What if I was making this all up in my head? What if there was no noise in the first place, maybe it was just a dream, and I'm freaking myself out over nothing?

I look down beside my bed, seeing a pair of black heels I had worn a couple nights previous to a dinner out with Ethan.

Ugh, Ethan.

Why couldn't he have been here tonight?

I decide to grab the shoe, holding onto the ball of the foot as I carefully slid out of bed, trying not to make a sound as I started towards my bedroom door. I tiptoed carefully, trying to be quieter than I have ever been, hand reaching for my doorknob.

I open my bedroom door at the same time that my intruder does as my bedroom light is flicked on. I squint my eyes closed, holding the shoe up in defence, heel pointing out towards my attacker.

I hear a chuckle as I unsquint my eyes, blinking them open to see a cozy-looking Ethan in front of me.

"Ethan! What the fuck," I groan sleepily, dropping my hand that held my weapon.

He puts his hands up in defence.

"What the fuck are you doing with that?" He asks with another laugh.

"Were you going to stab me with a heel?" His eyebrows furrow, his smirk still wide across his tired face.

I sigh, annoyed and tired as my shoulders sag.

"I thought someone broke in, you fucking scared me," I whined to him, my hand going to my still thumping heart as Ethan stepped into my room, closing the door behind him and turning off the light.

"Babe, look, I'm sorry," he apologized, reaching out and taking the shoe from me before scooping me under his arm and leading me back to bed.

"I couldn't sleep. I just needed to see you," he explained as I sat back on my bed, watching in the darkness as he placed the shoe down.

"What's wrong?" I asked him, squinting in the dim lighting to see him kick his shoes off and shed his sweater.

"Nothing. Was just restless," he whispers now, stepping towards the bed and gesturing for me to climb back under the covers.

I do as I'm told and cuddle up to my pillow again, him getting in bed beside me and pulling the duvet over us.

"Eth," I whimpered into his neck as he pulled me into his chest, needing to hear the real reason that he decided to wake me up in the middle of the night.

"Dream. Needed to make sure you were okay," he finally puffed out, his arm winding around my waist tighter, lips resting on the top of my head.

"Another one?" I asked, not really wanting or needing to hear an answer from him.

"I just...couldn't sleep after," he admitted to me, voice low and slow.

I lifted my head from under his chin, trying to look up at him in the darkness.

"Hey," I whispered out, my lips hitting his chin. He tilted his head down to look at me.

"We're okay," I whispered to him, so quietly I was sure that it was just my warm breath that was hitting his lips.

"I love you, baby," I whispered again, my lips moving against his as I spoke.

Ethan kissed me lightly, lips sticking to mine.

"I love you," he repeated to me, sighing deeply onto my face.

"I just...don't think I'll be able to sleep now," he sighed, sounding frustrated in himself.

I scooted myself closer into his body, hip bones resting against each others as I draped a hand over his body, hand meeting his back.

"Just relax, E," I hummed out tiredly, fingertips gently running up and down his back.

"You know how I can never sleep before a flight? And you always tell me to focus on right now? Focus on how tired you are, focus on your mind calming down," I spoke, lips still against his chin as I felt his breathing relax.

"Think about us. Just us. Right here. The blankets are so soft and warm. And I'm so tired, E," I almost giggled out as I tried to sweet talk him into a blissful sleep.

I swear I could almost feel his lips turning up in a smirk.

"I'm tired, and I love you," I said, tilting my head back to see if his eyes were even closed.

His lips were parted, calm breaths leaving them as his serene face relaxed against the pillow.

"E?" I asked, checking to see if he was awake.

After no response or even movement from his end, I smiled in success.

"Thank god you broke into my apartment,"
