Chapter Two
Days went on, as more people were being put in cages. They were all men, women and young children, like Zuri. I don’t know what they want with us. I tried to talk to the strangers, but they seem not to understand what I was saying. There was also something very interesting. Some of the people, who were putting people in cages, were like all of us. They had the same skin tone and everything. But of course they are working for the bad guys.
Every morning and evening, people would come to the cages and bring us food. Sometimes it would be this hard substance, other times it would be fruit from the forest. But they would only give us a little bit of food, nothing to control our roaring stomachs. Many people were dying all around by lack of food and water. When someone dies, a guy comes into the cage and pulls the body out and throws it into the ocean. It’s depressing to watch, I could only hope that my siblings aren’t next.
One of the bad guys walked past our cage and people began to beg for more food. I knew it was useless after trying it before. All they do is laugh at your face and keep walking. They don’t stop for anything. Once the guy past, everyone got quiet again.
A loud chaos went on. Two people, the ones that are working for the other guys, were engage in a fight. They threw punches at each other, while people tried to split them up. Both of the guys looked furious. I couldn’t hear what they were saying but I knew it had to be bad. The one who looked like he was going kill someone, ripped out of the arms out of the person who was holding him and walked away.
Everyone was looking when the commotion happened, but people stopped looking and began to have their selves another pity party. I kept looking at the guy; somehow I couldn’t take my eyes away. When he walked by my cage, he noticed me looking. He stopped and looked at me.
I gasped. He had these piercing green eyes. Usually people here have brown eyes, occasionally there would be green but I never seen anyone with eyes like these. But somehow, they seemed familiar, but I don’t know where I seen them. The corner of his lips curved upward into a smirk.
“Good to see you awake princess.” I felt my eyes widen and I took a step back. He was the guy from the forest, where I tried to run. He laughed at my face, before he looked like he was thinking about something. He then looked into my eyes and gave me a warm smile. “Name’s Travis.”
“What kind of name is Travis?” I scoffed, looking skeptical.
He just shrugged. “The name my master gave me it,” he hissed something under his breath, but I didn’t catch what he said.
“What’s a master,” I asked confused, not having any idea what he was talking about.
“How do I explain this?” He murmured, rubbing his hang over his face. “A master is someone who has us, ‘slaves’, and we work for him. Do all the hard labor and anything he says. If he tells you to do something you have to do it. He owns his slaves.” I nodded in confirmation, still confused. Two strangers walked behind asking Travis something. He replied back in the strange language before the two guys walked away.
“What were they saying? What language was that?” I questions. He laughed a cute laugh.
“That? That was English. Where we are going, everyone speaks it.” He smiled. “I can teach you if you want?” He offered. I thought about it. Why would he offer to help me out? My mind was telling him to give him a chance; it wouldn’t hurt to learn another language. Hell it would probably help out a lot maybe.
