Jack impatiently watched the seconds tick by on the clock, counting down to freedom. He shoved his cramped wings against the cold plastic chair, making a shiver run down his spine and his feathers stand on end. He ran his fingers over the goosebumps that had formed on his arm, daydreaming of how it would be like to climb over the mountains. Jack's eyes darted back over to the clock. Just two more minutes.
"Jack ross, would you care coming back to class." Mr.Shem's loud deep voice crashed through Jack's daydream like a wrecking ball. Jack's head whipped around to meet eyes with his impatient teacher.
"Oh, um, yes, sorry." Jack apologised turning crismon before the entire class started to roar with laughter.
"Okay class, that's enough." Mr. Shem called out in his monotone voice. "Anyway, I will be handing out the homework packet at the door. Other than that, you can use this last minute to clean up. I will see you all in the morning."
"Finally" Jack mumbled under his breath as the room filled up with the sounds of kids giggling and talking ,slamming heavy waist straps on the thin wooden desks fathers shaking as wings are stretched. Mr.Shem stood at the door as kids ran in line to get their homework and leave. Jack hurriedly stuffed his books into his waist strap and rushed to the door. But before he could grab the packet and leave, Mr.Shem blocked the door with his full grown owl wings.
"Jack, I really need you to pay attention in class." Mr.Shem sighed as he rubbed his eyes.
"Yes sir, I'm sorry Mr.Shem." Jack mumbled an apology while sinking into the protection of his wings.
"It's fine Jack, just try to work harder in class. And please, if you need help talk to me. I really don't want to call your mother." Mr.Shem warned. He slowly moved his wing out of the way and handed jack his homework "And please actually do your homework." Jack stuffed his homework in his waist strap, strapped it on, and ran out of the room while yelling back at his teacher.
"I will Mr.Shem, I promise." Jack ran down the hall and out the door. As soon as the crisp mountain air hit his face, Jack sighed in relief. He absolutely hated the indoors. The stuffy classrooms, the artificial wind from the A.C., the monotone teacher. It was just all too much. Jack ran out into the field and looked up into the sky. Children flying to their parents, kids chasing each other, and busy students flying home. Jack sighed as he lied on the grass and watched. Twenty minutes passed when he finally heard his big brother's loud footsteps come toward him. Jack stayed lying on the ground to watch the empty sky.
"Sorry I was late, the teacher made me clean." Atticus said as he sat criss cross next to Jack. Jack grunted as he struggled to sit in the same position as Atticus.
"It's okay Atticus." Jack muttered.
"Come on, momma is making dinner." Atticus said as he got his safety things out of his waist strap, a doctor mask looking mouth guard and professor safety goggles. He has a thing for doctors.
"Okay, hold on," Jack sighed as he pushed around in his messy waist strap to pull out his transformers mouth guard and safety goggles. Jack put them on as he pushed himself up onto his feet, Atticus did the same, and with one swift motion, Jack spread his raven wings out. He looked over to find Atticus spreading his wings and waiting for a Let's go. "Hey, Atticus." Jack called his brother with a smirk.
"What?" Atticus responded
"Race you home!" Jack yelled and took off, his wings flapping loudly as he accelerated up into the sky.
"Oh, you're on!" Atticus accepted the challenge. Anyone would think that Atticus would be faster than Jack, but actually Jack was surprisingly fast for his age. He was one of the fastest kids in his grade. Atticus was practically eating Jack's dust as he was having to stop and catch his breath on top of a tree. Jack noticed this and stopped to join him. "Dang little man, you really know how to work those wings of yours." Atticus said breathlessly as he ruffled Jack's black hair.
