Chapter one : Meeting in the Rain
It's like any other day really. I walk into school, and before I can comprehend what's happening I'm being shoved into a wall. Right on schedule.
My bag is thrown somewhere further down the hall, while two large hands pin me to the wall, hard enough that I know they'll leave bruises. I clench my teeth together and squeeze my eyes shut, staying as silent as I can be.
My back breaks out in a dull throb, and I can't help the hiss that slips through my lips.I hear a few deep laughs, but don't bother opening my eyes. A hard fist makes contact with my stomach, and it sends me gasping for air. But I refuse to make any other sound. But I don't struggle either. I don't try and fight back.
Pathetic. I know.
Another punch to the stomach, and I bite my lip to keep myself quite. The hands pinning me to the wall let go, and I fall to the floor. I'm taking deep breaths, trying to fill my airless lungs with back up oxygen.
One of the guys surrounding me, sends a hard kick to the middle of my ribs. Already having a nasty bruise there, I hiss once more.
More kicks come, and all I do is take them. I just lay there, and take it. Like I'm supossed to. Like I was taught to.By the time they finally leave, I have a split lip and new bruises to cover my face and upper body.
'I'll have to get more cleaning alcohol and gauze...'
A few students stop to stare, and then move on. Others ignore me completely. It's what I'm used to though.
I take a moment to catch my breath, before standing up and smiling softly at no one in particular.
I walk over and gather my things which where thrown carelessly to one side. I cheak to make sure everything is still there and in working condition. Once satisfied, I continue making my way down the hall.
I enter my maths classroom, and notice we have a new teacher for the new half year. I send him a small smile, and can't help but be surprised when he smiles back.
'That will soon change. Soon he'll be like evryone else'
I take my seat at the back of the classroom, and take out my math book and a pen. While waiting for class to begin, I stare out the window. I spot the old oak tree out in the school gardens. It's branches sway to the strong winds, and it's bright yellow and orange leave contrast greatly with the grand grey storm clouds over head.
At the thought of rain, I can't help but grin faintly.
I love the rain. The bell rings loudly, and I look back towards the front of the classroom. Our new teacher stands in front of his desk, waiting patiently for the class to settle down.
"Good morning everyone. My name is Mr. Roberts and I am your new maths teacher. Today I will start wit-"
I stop listening about a moment later, and lay my head down In my arms. The faint sound of rain hitting the window can be heard. And it started acting as my own personal lullaby. Having not slept much last night, my energy levels where beyond low. Knowing fully well that I couldn't fall asleep during class, I decided I'd just look out the window. Math is easy anyway, as are all my other subjects.
Having spaced out, the first two periods pass quickly, as do third and fourth.
The lunch bell rings, and the whole student body runs towards the cafeteria. People crowd the halls ways, pushing and shoving each other as they make there way down the hall.
I on the other hand, stay in the classroom for another five minutes before getting up and packing my things.
Not hungry, I wander down the mostly empty halls, until I find myself at the back entrance which leads to the gardens. Making a split decision, I walk out into the pouring rain, enjoying the cold droplets of water as they hit my skin.
I walk towards the old oak, and gladly lay against the rough bark. Again, a wave of fatigue hits me, and I find myself fighting to keep my eyes open.
The tree gives little protection from the rain, but I don't mind it.
The pain from earlier is now starting to catch up, sending sharp pangs through my chest every time I breathed or moved to quickly.
Somewhere over in the distance, I hear the school bell ring once again, but I ignore it.
Mature. I know.
But the pain and exhaustion is to much. And the sound of rain doesn't help any. It's like nature wants me to fall asleep.
'I'll just stay here a bit. I'll just...rest my eyes...'
It was so peaceful. And I felt something similar to joy. Maybe even happiness. But not quite the real thing. And it's been a long time since I've felt even this close. But I don't think, I'll ever be truly happy again. And that's ok. This is enough.
The world seems to blur around me, so I close my eyes, heaving a soft sigh as I relax my sore and aching muscles.
A memory tickles the back of my brain, but it's gone as fast as it came.
I feel the darkness pulling at me, the sweet release of unconsciousness. But a sudden voice has me snapping my eyes open in a second.
It's clear and smooth, and has my heart skipping a beat randomly. It pierce through the rain, like the sound of a pin dropping in complete silence.
I look around until I see who the voice belongs too. There, running towards me, is a boy. But The rain distorts my vision, as does my lack of energy. Moments later, the boy all but collapses in front of me, panting heavily.
It takes him a moment to catch his breath, and all I can do is stare at him.'What on earth? Why is he here? '
Concerned, I frown lightly. I am about to open my mouth when his head snaps up, and I suddenly forgot how to do anything. And that includes breathing.
Light blond hair slightly covers his eyes, which are a deep mix of Hazel and olive green. I couldn't look away, his gaze holding me frozen in place
After a moment of him staring at me, and me just sitting here like an idiot, he shakes his head and frowns.
"What are you doing out here!" He asks, having to shout over the rain. I open my mouth, and close it again, not knowing what to say. I probably look like a fish out of water.
I couldn't think. All I could do was stare. There is something about him, that just sent my head spinning. And this time it's not because of exhaustion. It's a good kind of dizzy... yes, I know that sounds stupid but I don't know how else to explain it.
"Well I'm not going you let you sit out here, come on!"
And with out warning, he takes my hand and pulls me up with him, and then proceeds to drag me back towards the school, leaving me no choice but to follow.
