Chapter 1

Ethan was a young boy who had nothing but a myriad of opportunities spread out before him like a river delta in his midst. From this delta, being selected from a group on entrees for The Voice Kids Australia 2014 was one of them.

Ethan's stunning vocal capacity was what had won him the position on the show, as well as his devilishly good looks.

He had even received an offer to be the figurehead of the advertisement on TV, which had earned him an outstanding reputation with all of his friends at school. The aforementioned friends in question had even taken it upon themselves to create a Facebook page that was something akin to being a fan page for all of the people that wanted him to win. It is at the creation of this page that our story begins, our story of romance and love, hate and solitude.

-----

It had been weeks since Ethan had starred for the commercial for the new TV series, "The Voice Kids Australia". It had been something that the 14 year old boy had had in his sights for a long while now, for singing was his passion and there was nothing he enjoyed more than straining his vocal chords until he couldn't raise a note more. Singing and making and writing music and lyrics and such were always a hobby and pastime of Ethan's, as they had also been an escape; An escape from reality, an escape from the things that had happened to him in years gone by. The lyrics written upon a piece of paper had provided him with a place that he could create whatever he wanted, whenever, wherever...

Many things that he had experience had scarred him until this day, some of the things that he had seen and some of the things that he had done, things that he had not been proud of.

But the day that he won The Voice Kids would be the day that he created a new image for himself and the people that he chose to associate with, for it would by the turning over of the leaf, representing the start of something new, a "fresh start", so to speak.

The day that he won the voice would be the best day of his life, for nobody knew what could have happened the day that he did, and when that day came? He knew that he would relish it forever.

-------

Ethan was now on the way to school, mulling over what he had been thinking about the past night and the previous morning, things such as how he was going to win and what songs he was going to sing, and how. So many things had been rushing through his mind at the time, but there was only one thing that had caught his attention fully.

He had been moved to a new class at his school, in which he did not have any friends, and given the fact that not many people knew him to be the boy from the voice, as the advertisement had not yet aired, not many people were inclined to talk to him.

Ethan had stepped onto the bus where he walked up to the area near the back in which most of his friends sat, one of them being Danny.

Danny was a boy of the year up, year 10, that Ethan had the ability to trust fully, and would tell everything to. Danny was a fairly bigger boy, standing strong at six feet and two inches tall; he towered over the smaller figure of Ethan. Danny had short blonde hair and a solid build to boot, an overall slightly imposing figure, but alas, Ethan and Danny had set aside their differences and had become best mates over the course of the school year, and Ethan had found himself sitting next to the gargantuan lad more often than anyone else. The duo often engaged in rituals of watching anime during the course of their bus ride, which calmed Ethan due to the fact that it reminded him a lot of the way that he wrote music. The way that fiction was an escape, and that his lyrics were often based around that sole genre of writing and lyrical structure.

The bus ride had ended abruptly, sooner than the young child had expected it too. This had been happening a lot more often, as he just had too many things running through and around his mindscape to focus on one, it became a lost endeavour. Time often passed very quickly when it came to thinking on a bus, a bus that Ethan caught every day, he often found himself thinking about various things; His music, The Voice, that one girl that sits in the back corner of his class that he found to be extremely cute. All of these things had been occupying his mind more than they should have; Ethan had other things to worry about.

Ethan had now walked into his new classroom; the room in which friends and people that seemed to wish to talk to him were in short supply. The young lad sat his bag down in the far corner of the room and took his seat in the very last row, in the corner seat. Every other seat in the room had been filled except for the one next to him on his right, which he had been worried about until he spotted a blonde head of hair walk through the door in the corner of his eye. Deciding not to look over and deciding to see what the fair-headed girl would do, he concentrated his gaze on the whiteboard at the front of the room, and waiting. The girl at the door hesitated slightly upon seeing the newcomer to the class, but after a fraction of a second, moved over to the new arrival, and placed her bag between her legs, on the ground and took a seat next to the one and only, Ethan Karpathy.

He spared her a quick glance and a small smile, which she seemed to return just as kindly and quickly. The young schoolboy subtly noting that she had beautifully shining hair, and soft, luscious looking lips, and vibrant blue eyes; his favourite colour. He had thought that she had looked very attractive, and looked away from her slowly, and smiled to himself inwardly, speaking to himself within his head, "she's pretty cute, you're kind of lucky hey?" a small laugh escaped his mouth, causing everyone to look his way in confusion, which Ethan shied away from. He was not the kind of person to particularly like attention from people that he may or may not like, or from people that may not even like him at all. "She beats all of the other girls in here though...” Smiling to himself at that thought, he trudged through the day, seeing what it had to behold for him.

-------

Throughout the weeks these two had grown to become the best of friends, and Ethan had learnt many things about her and her past. He had come to know her as "Sam". She had grown up in the typical suburban home, with an abusive father that had moved out and broke up with their family from an early age, leaving her to grow up without a father, but not without the pain of losing her father first. She had a fairly standard childhood, attended a respectable school, with its fair share of bullies, but she never let them get to her. She had a strong personality and was always able to make Ethan laugh. Coincidently, she happened to enjoy writing and making music as well, and she had played guitar and the piano, and had proficient skill in both.

A notion had popped into Ethan's head, which he could possibly write a song with Sam, but he had not wanted to risk compromising the friendship that was so steadily formed from nothing, not with such a foolish move.

She was actually the first person that Ethan had told about The Voice Kids, and when she found out that he was starring in it, she had been ecstatic about the idea of him on The Voice. It was the day that he had told her about his ambitions and his goal for his winning of the Voice, that the news had spread, and more and more people were asking him about it, and wanting to be his friend.

It was that day that he had made many more friends, and all thanks to Sam, his best friend.

That was the best time of his life, and surely, the days after would be some of the best as well.

Or so he thought...
