Ethan had known Sam for a long while now, and had been growing ever closer to her. Always taking time out of his own busy schedule to see her and talk to her, even if it meant he had to skip practice lessons, he would skip just to ensure that he had time to talk to her.

There was something about her voice that Ethan had really grown a liking for; it was the way she spoke.

The fair-headed girl spoke with such a calm nature within her voice that it was hard to resist listening to her, the young boy often found himself listening to her not because he was interested in what she had to say (which he was) but because of the way that she spoke and what it sounded like when her voice had entered his ears.

He remembered when he had heard it for the first time, when he had discovered that they got off at the same stop, and only lived down the road from each other. He had initiated a conversation with her, and he didn't think he could ever forget it. Not because it was special in any way, but because of the way that she had spoken to him the very first time that they had met and exchanged words. he remembered it distinctly.

*Flashback*

Ethan was just about to get off the bus on his very first day in his new class, when he noticed the very same blonde-haired girl that sat next to him getting ready to get off the bus as well. He had thought that the chances of them sitting together and also getting off at the same stop to be a little slim, and also largely coincidental, but he accepted it nonetheless.

He got off of the bus and took everything i stride, trying to walk slightly faster than the girl behind him, as he wanted to NOT look like a total creep if he had followed her.

When a though entered his head at that moment, "Why can't i just talk to her?" It was a sound thought, and he figured "YOLO".

So he did just that.

He turned around and smiled warmly at the girl, who retured the very same, as he had expected. He slowed down at a gentle pace, to match Sam's, so that they were walking side by side on the concrete sidewalk.

He continued to plaster a small smile on his face when he blurted out a slightly blunt "hello"

"Smooth Ethan...Real smooth" was all he could think, and the embarassment showed by the blush that he developed slowly.

Sam had thought "God he's awkward, why do i always attract the weird ones?"

Although she had thought this at first, she had been forced to reconsider her previous thought as Ethan had quickly recovered himself and succeeded in creating a proper sentance, which sounded a little like "How are you?"

Sam was slightly surprised, she didn't actually expect him to talk to her, let alone be alone to speak a normal sentance. But alas, she replied

"I'm quite good thank you" with a small smile to finish. she then added "How are you?"

Ethan quickly replied with a solid "Good...i'm great actually" a small chuckle escaped him which elicited a light giggle from Sam also.

"What is your name?" Ethan had enquired.

"My name is Samantha. you can just call me Sam though, i like it better."

Ethan had thought over the name. Sam...he liked that name, he also liked Sam. Although it was just a physical attraction so far, he had come to a conclusion that he also liked the part of Sam that wasn't physical.

"It's great to meet you Sam! My name is Ethan, you can call me...Ethan, haha" He said boistrously, slightly loud too, causing the blonde girl to startle.

"Aha, it's nice to meet you too Ethan" Sam stated in an equally loud volume, as if to show Ethan up.

Ethan had been surprised at her volume. He had thought that she was the kind of girl to be quiet, and not talk much. obviously not.

Meanwhile, Sam was wondering if she was too loud, wondering if she had caused Ethan to think she was weird. She really hoped that she didn't; she kind of liked him.

"Anyways, i gotta get home before mum yells at me haha! i'll see you tomorrow at school yeah?" Ethan had asked.

"Yeah of course, looking forward to it" Said Sam in a soft voice with a small smile on her face, not wanting to give too much away just yet.

Ethan nodded and turned around to walk into his house, which he had actually walked past during his conversation with Sam. It just goes to show how much he really enjoyed talking to her, even if it was only the first time that they had actually talked.

He fell on his bed that night with thoughts of the girl running through his head; What is she really like, what kind of girl she is, if they would be better friends in the future. All of these things rushed in and around his mind and he hoped that the answers to all of them were positive.

*End Flashback*

It was now the end of the first semester and it was just the start of holidays, giving Ethan two or three weeks to do whatever he wanted. He really wanted to be better friends with Sam...or even, something more?

Yeah, he definitely wanted that.

He saw so much in Sam that he really wanted to see more of, more often. The youngster liked so much about her, and he wondered so much if she felt the same way.

"I wonder if i were to tell her, what she would think, and if she would feel the same way? what would she say?"

Ethan was all but not worried about the situation at hand but he had only one way to prove himself wrong...or right.

He called Sam and waited for her to pick up the phone, which did not happen. Ethan tried again and was slightly disappointed when she again failed to answer his call. He had wondered what had happened and if everything was ok, because he had really cared for her, even if they weren't dating right now, he still cared a lot for her. If she was sad, he would always make the time to go to her house down the road and make sure that she was okay. Fortunately, she did the same to him. Ethan remembered one time that she had come over when he had said to her that he was having some trouble dealing with everything at school, with the rage about The Voice and his sudden popularity, he was feeling a little run down. So Sam had come along with six bottles of Red Eye, Ethan's favourite drink, and Rise Against's newest album downloaded on her ipod for them to listen to, Rise Against was one of Ethan's favorite bands.

That day was one of his favorites, he distinctly remembered falling asleep whilst watching 'The Notebook" because Sam had requested it. Feeling bad for falling asleep he made to move and message Sam on his messenger on his phone, to tell her sorry for falling asleep, only to find that she herself had also fallen asleep with her head on his chest, and the rest of her body curled up next to him looking for warmth.

He had just smiled and gone back to sleep, as this was the happiest he had been in ages. He had fallen asleep so swiftly that time, and awoke only to find that the weight upon his chest was missing.

He searched frantically for the whereabouts of Sam but found nothing.

He stood up and took a moment to stretch his stiff and sore muscles. When he had finished he stole a glance at his desk, where a small piece of paper had been placed, which looked like it had some writing on it. It read "Hey Ethan! Sorry for falling asleep on you, The Notebook is a good movie, but it was so easy to fall asleep on you haha, sorry again".

Ethan couldn't help but smile at the note, he had noticed the way that his chest rose and fell with her hear on it, he could imagine what that would do to him if he were in her place.

He just wished that he would be able to do that more often.

The days passed and so did weeks, and he still had not asked Sam what he had been wanting to ask her for so long. Ethan had meant to ask her if she would like to go out with him, but he never got around to it. Every single time he had wanted to, he always managed to find some reason why he shouldn't, and ended up not doing it.

One day he would just man up, and do it, and things would turn out great. right?
