Stefan ran through the meadows. He was scared and frustrated at the same time. His heart was racing wildly and it looked as if he had just finished running a marathon.
He slowed down to a halt and looked around.
It was a perfect day for walking. The path was a rustling carpet of gold leaves. Stefan trotted through skeletal trees, their branches so bare that she could have counted the leaves on each and every one as he passed by. The trees were skirted by pools of autumn gold and rust colored leaves. When the wind blew the pools animated. Leaves took to the air in an elegant dance, pirouetting around the tree trunks to their own orchestral rustling. When the wind calmed, the dance ended and the leaves landed to form new pools that looked identical to the ones they were in before they started to frolic.
The air hung heavy with the smell of lilac and bonfires. The floor was filled with scarlet and gold leaves that looked as if it rained leaves the previous day.
He stopped to look at the clouds drifting in an azure sky. His worries left him as he stood there, gazing at the clouds.
Then something caught his eye.
A creature formed in the sky.
An angel
It's face was angular and it's features aquiline. His face was sad and yet beautiful. His wings were spread out to show his pride. His sword's hilt was literally glowing. The angel's face was tense and shinning. He wore a robe that was a brilliant white color and which flowed to his feet. He had a shield in his hands that had a name on it.
The name was Saraph
Then a voice came to him
"Nothing is what it seems"
"It's beautiful, isn't it?" a voice said behind him
He turned back, startled and he met the most beautiful person he had ever seen.
Her eyes were green. The kind of green that pushed its way through the piles of gritty snow to remind you that spring was coming. The kind of green that budded on the prisoners of winter, bringing life back to their branches. That churning, passionate green that the ocean turns during a storm. That colour of the forest after it rains. The colour of the tadpoles making ripples in the pond. That green colour that brings hope and life no matter what has happened. And looking into those eyes, I could see it. And she knew that I could.
Her eyes were the glimmering color of emerald, sparkling in the light of the morning sun like a fresh sheen of morning dew. When she turned her head, this way and that, they caught the light and played tricks with anything and everything that screamed 'spring.' And when she lifted her pale face to the sky, emerald shifted into the color of deep ocean shimmering in the moonlight.
She had a kind of understated beauty, perhaps it was because she was so disarmingly unaware of her prettiness. Her pale skin was completely flawless. He doubted she used face masks or expensive products, that really wasn't her m.o. Her skin glowed literally, it was her inner beauty that lit her eyes and softened her features.
The lady that walked in could have graced any billboard or magazine cover, but she was better than those two dimensional photoshopped models. Somehow her imperfections made her perfect. There was a shyness to her, hesitation in her body movements and a softness in her voice. Her black suit had a tailored look that was bold against her pale skin, but he could already see her in jeans and a t-shirt, feet up on the couch and painting her nails. She was right there, only feet away, but in her understated glamour she might as well be on the television or a girl in a pop video.
"Yeah, it is" Stefan said
"I didn't mean to startle you" She said
Her voice was as soft as silk that made his skin crawl.
"Emilia Gray" She said and extended her hand
"Stefan Forbes" Stefan said and shook her hand.
Her skin was soft and warm and it felt like silk.
"You know me right?" Emilia asked
"No, we just met"
"I'm the school's queen as you may know and I'll be your tour guide in the school"
"Oh!Thanks"
You're welcome, Stefan"
"Yeah. So you know about the recent killings in Brooklyn, right?"
"Yeah. That's why the cops have imposed a curfew and its advisable not to go out at night alone"
"Okay. Thanks for the information"
"You're welcome and i strongly advise you not to go out after 9:00 pm"
"Yeah. I won't"
"Promise me that"
"I promise"
Then Emilia left him to his thoughts.
The sun had begun it's descent already and it was getting late. Stefan peered at his watch. "6:42 pm"
Stefan took the path back home to take his rest.
