I remember the loud crack of a gun, the sweet smells of honey, chocolate and strawberries and the vivid shape of a wolf tattoo. But the most memorable thing was the honey eyes which gazed down at me, the stranger who held me in his arms, I longed for him, I wanted to know who he was and what he was, for I knew he wasn’t human. I pondered for what felt like days, confined to the darkness of my mind, wondering what death would bring now, if there was a next step to death. I was waiting, hoping for that next step, I was becoming impatient and edgy, and I thought death would be peaceful. My thoughts flickered to my past, images of my family and friends swirled in front of me, my heart ached as a deep sadness ran through me. How would they react to my sudden, unexpected death? I just hoped my quick thinking, hair brained mother won’t do anything rash, for her sake. And would Dad ever become the successful inventor that he always dreamed of? And would my little brother, Luke, get an A* in his GCSE exams and become a famous actor? It was so frustrating, it was like setting down a gripping story and you would never know how the story ends, except it wasn’t a gripping book, it was my life, and it ended too soon.  I was alerted by searing pain running through my body like a bolt of lightning, I felt like gritting my non-existent teeth, the pain was getting too much so I retreated further into my mind, trying to escape the wrath of the pain.

I ran so far into the secret depths of my mind, I collided into a black wall. I tried running around it, but it never ended. The pain was catching up with me again, I had no choice, I pushed hard against this barrier of nothing, hoping it would budge. Behind me the pain forced me against the barrier, both forces now acted as barriers, I was getting squashed by the walls. A blood curdling scream escaped my lips.

The walls reacted to the unexpected noise, releasing me from its iron grip for a moment, then came at me again. I screamed and the wall reacted as it did before. I started screaming at the barrier until it was no where in sight, and my mind started to brighten. I was aware of my body twitching into existence, I felt my breath come and go and my heart was flying faster than ever before. My eyes started to flicker open, pools of light filtered through my lids, it was so bright. I heard voices, calm voices talking about me.

“The bird boys up there sent her down here two days ago” said a young voice filled with arrogance.

“Now Ian there’s no need to call the angels names” said an older, wiser voice

“It’s only natural Leonardo, demons and… angels are meant to dislike each other. It’s like cats hunting mice, you don’t see the cat being nice to the mouse and you definitely do not see the mouse trying to make friends with a cat. It will end in bloodshed” said Ian

“I suppose your right. But we do our jobs; they take the souls who have earned a place in heaven while we take the rest. Like this one, how’s her transformation coming along?” Leonardo asked

“She’s fine, the sooner she wakes up the faster we can throw her out” growled Ian

“Don’t be hasty Ian, show some respect, she’ll probably have some questions… they always have” snapped Leonardo

“She’s female, females don’t deserve any respect” Ian growled again

The ferocity of Ian’s answer frightened me and I yelped, feeling the blood rush to my face at my mistake.

“Look she’s awake. Throw her out” Ian ordered

“Wait, Ian give her a few minutes to adjust!” pleaded Leonardo

There was a moment’s silence.

“Fine. Five minutes” whispered Ian

I heard his footsteps leaving and the rapid pulse of our hearts,
