Skipping Rock

When you attempt to skip a rock, sometimes it hits once and sinks to the bottom of the body of water, but sometimes, it glides along the water and creates beautiful ripples as it hits each time. Under most circumstances, love can be the same. Sometimes, you can fall in love with someone, and it goes in a direction you don't want it to and it feels like you hit rock bottom. But, in the rare and very exhilarating case that you do fall in love and it works out, time flies and you feel like you're walking on water.

When I met Bowen, I knew that he was going to be in my life forever. Granted, we were both in eighth grade, innocent to what the word love really means. I knew how it felt to love my mom, and how it felt when my little sister would proudly state that I am her big sister, or even when my dad would tell me I looked pretty that day. I knew what love felt like from them, but from someone outside my family, I didn't know what love from a male my age could feel like, if it was really love.

I had my fair share of "love" experiences, by the books of a naive teenager, that have shaped and molded me to be more distrusting when anyone showed attraction towards me. I never truly trusted anyone, I had sheltered myself, I surrounded myself by friends who really aren't friends but more like big brothers. Girls tend to view me as introverted and I didn't fit in with any of the girls that I had met, they all were full of drama and who likes drama these days?

But in all honesty, I, Gracie Cain, am an introverted, distrusting, and self-destructing 16 year old girl who can't make a friend to save her life, except for Bowen. Bowen is good. Bowen is great.

Even still, my skipping rock is resting at the bottom of the lake, waiting to give another try to a happy skip along the water. I'll find someone to get it out, I'll find someone who won't throw it back down there.
