The sun was just about to go down, making the sky different shades of red and pinks. Summer vacation was just around the corner making it very warm outside. My brother, Noah, 10 years old, was running around the house playing with his toy police car. I was on the couch trying to finish one last assignment for school since tomorrow was the last day. I wanted to show the teacher I really took my academics seriously. I couldn't focus though with the toy sirens going off.
"Noah!" I yelled. "Please go upstairs and play! I'm trying to finish one last assignment!" I looked at him as he ran by me.
He stopped and looked at me and said mimickly "Go upstairs and play."
He walked towards the stairs and went up them, with the siren following behind him.
My mother was in the kitchen making dinner and my dad should be home soon. My household is pretty normal, not too busy or calm.

I was quickly writing down the last problem that I had to do. I wanted it to be done so I didn't have to worry about anything. Almost done......finished! I closed by notebook and textbook and just sighed in relief. I heard my mom come into the living room.
"You alright Lana?" She asked.
I smiled. "I finished my school work and now I'm ready for summer!"
"Haha, thats nice dear. Call your brother from upstairs. Dinner is ready."
I cleaned up my books and put them in a pile on the brown coffee table in front of me.
"Noah! Dinner is done!" I said walking towards the kitchen. The smell of cooked peppers and spices filled the air. When I walked in the kitchen, the table had white glass plates with silverware. Next to our plate was a touch board. If we forgot something, like salt, we would type in the keypad "salt" and our servant Roja will come and give it to us. (Roja is a tiny robot).
Footsteps came from the stairs and then Noah came running around the corner. He went to his seat and smiled as he waited patiently for his dinner to come. I sat down in my seat when the front door opened.
"Oh your just in time dad! Dinner is being served." Noah said.
"Hey kiddos." He said taking off his jacket and hanging it on a nearby hanger. He walked over to my mom and kissed her check and sat in his chair.
"How was school today?" He asked.
"Boring like always." Noah said. My mom started to put food on our plates.
"Well now summer is just a day away. You should be happy!"
"I'm excited for summer cause I can go outside now." I said.
My mom finished putting food on our plates and sat in her seat. We all then grew quiet since everyone was eating. The sky grew dark now and the streetlights was glowing white.
We had a few conversations here and there, and then we laughed.
When we all finished our plates Roja came over cleaned our table for us.
"How about you guys go upstairs and get ready for bed." My dad said.
"I'll beat you there!" Noah said and he was off.
I looked at my parents and smirked. They smiled back at me. I turned and ran after him.
I was halfway up the stairs when my brother was at the top. He turned around and said "Haha you lost!"
"Oh darn I did," I said sarcastically. "Go into the bathroom and take a shower. I'll get pajamas for you."
He walked into the bathroom which was right in front of the stairs and closed the door. I went into his room and went to his dresser to get clothes. When I grabbed pajamas I could hear mumbling of my parents down stairs. I closed the draw the pajamas were in and looked at his room. His room was dark blue with toy trucks on shelves and posters of cars on the wall. I looked to his bed which was neatly folded and had a monster truck in the middle. I went over and got it ready for him. When I was done I grabbed the pajamas that I set down and went towards the bathroom.
When I reached the closed door I stopped and heard my parents still talking.
"What if they're not ready, they need to know at some point." I heard my mother say.
"They are ready. When the time is right we can tell them." Was the response.
We were ready? For what? Just then the water of the shower started and got me on track again. I opened the door and put the pajamas on the sink and closed it behind me. I went into my room and sat on my bed. My room was a pale pink and had fairy lights with poloroid pictures connected to them. My bed just had little designs on them. I just couldn't get off my mind what my parents meant.

When my brother got out of the shower he brushed his teeth. And did the same thing. We were both in the bathroom doing our nightly routine. I was drying my hair when I got out of the shower when my brother started talking.
"Can't you believe that summer vacation starts tomorrow? I'm so exited. Are you? Then Jonas can come over and play with me. Summer is going to be so much fun."
"Slow down," I said giggling. "Save all that energy for tomorrow."
I put the towel down and grabbed my toothbrush and put toothpaste on it. When I brushed my teeth my brother left and went into his room. I couldn't get off my mind, what were my parents talking about? When I finished brushing my teeth I shut off the light and went to my brothers room to say goodnight. He was sitting on his bed with a book opened on, of course, monster trucks.
"I'm gonna drive one of these one day. I am!" He said excitingly.
"Okay future driver, put the book away it's time for bed."
He closed the book and put it on the shelf near his bed. Just before he went into bed I grabbed him and started to play with him.
"A future driver needs his experience! When sharp turns like this happens and flips like that!" I said and swinging him around his room. He laughed and so did I until we got tired.
"And now a future driver must know," I said placing him on his bed. "It's time to go sleep."
He got under his sheets and looked at me and smiled.
"Goodnight buddy." I said and kissed him on the head.
"Good night sis." He said. I shut off the light and his little nightlight that shown over him was the only light you could see. I shut his door and went into my room. Before closing my door the only light I could see was the light from downstairs from the dining room. My parents must be still talking. I closed my door and shut off my light. I went into my bed and looked out the window across the room. I could just see white glowing from outside from the lamp posts. I layed there until sleep decided to take over me, and when it did I was out.
