|WILLA'S POV|

Usually when you look at something twice, you end up noticing something different the second time. However, as I let my eyes roam around the main room, I didn't notice anything else. It looked... normal. Not like a vampire lived here.

"How have you been, dear?" Orrey suddenly piped up, walking over to me and putting his cold hand on my shoulder. I tensed under his touch. The 'dear' part of it surprised me.

"Um... fine..." I answered slowly. I didn't want to make him feel bad for asking, but it was strange that he called me 'dear'. He barely even knew me. "How have you been?"

"Oh, I've been alright," the old man chuckled prior to patting my shoulder and finally stepping back. "I suppose you met Sugar?"

"Yeah, I did," I confirmed, letting my hands join behind my back. "I don't think she likes me, though." A grin crossed his face at that.

"I'm sure she will soon. She's just never met anyone outside of Brandon and I," he explained.

"And Damion," I added on. Orrey lost his smile and raised an eyebrow at me before nodding.

"Yes," he agreed cautiously, clearly surprised that I had brought up that name. Did he not know about Brandon revealing the truth to me? Probably not. From the way Brandon explained it, he left immediately to come rescue me. Rescue me. As grateful as I felt towards him, I also felt scared. A vampire saved me from getting assaulted, but for what? Just to save my blood for later? "I guess Brandon told you."

"Yeah," I choked out, trying to rid myself of the petrifying thought of dying in this creaky old house. Orrey seemed to sense my uneasiness.

"Brandon isn't dangerous. He's got an amazing sense of self-control," he assured me. A small, warm smile crossed his face before continuing. "He cares about you too much to hurt you." That stuck with me. He cares about you too much to hurt you. Brandon didn't want to save my blood for a later time. He wasn't going to kill me. He genuinely gave a damn about me and wanted to keep me safe. There was nothing to be worried about. Suddenly, I heard the dining room door creak open, and Brandon popped into the main room.

"Hello again," he exclaimed as he walked towards me. His little smile brightened up the whole room, no matter how cliché that sounds.

"Hi," I replied. A smile made its way across my face, which Brandon smiled even bigger at.

"Do you want something to drink? Some water, or...?" Brandon inquired, the smile being replaced by a look of concern. My tongue immediately recognized the word "water" and reminded my brain of how dry it was.

"Um... why not? Sure," I answered.

"Alright," Brandon said, instantly turning and walking towards the dining room door. Following behind him, I glanced back at Orrey, who nodded and smiled reassuringly at me. He completely trusted Brandon to not hurt me. Well, if he trusted him, I guessed that I should too. Brandon opened the door and stepped through, keeping his hand on the door to hold it open for me. I pushed it a little bit more to let him know I had the door, and he released it and continued walking. Once I was through, I let the door click shut behind me.

"So what do you want?" Brandon asked as we entered the kitchen. It wasn't too big of a room, with a black and white checkered floor and a window above the stainless-steel sink. What made it fancy was the intricate carvings on the wooden doors and golden handles of the cabinets. The simple lines all joined together to make wonderful shapes that couldn't be named but were stunning all the same.

"I guess just some water," I responded. He nodded to acknowledge my request and opened one of the cabinet doors, pulling out two identical glasses. Walking over to the sink, he turned the handle. The water instantly came splashing into the sink.

"You don't mind just regular sink water, do you?" he inquired, looking over his shoulder at me. My head shook.

"Nope."

"Alright." His gaze returned to the sink, where he put one glass after the other under the running water and let them be filled about 3/4 of the way full. After turning off the water, he headed back over to where I was leaning against the marble counter. He held one of the glasses out to me, which I gladly took. Immediately, the rim of the glass was against my lips and the cool water was running down my throat. I only drank a little of it since I didn't want to bring any more attention to myself than I already was. Secretly, though, I could have gulped down the whole thing in a few seconds. When I carefully crossed my arms (with my right hand holding the glass), I quickly glanced over at Brandon, who was staring at me with a cute little smile on his face. I'll admit it: it was really adorable.

"What?" I questioned after a second. He just quietly chuckled, shook his head, and took a drink of his water. My eyebrows furrowed. "What?" He lowered the glass and put it down next to him before answering.

"Did you know that your pinky sticks out just a little bit whenever you drink something?" he finally asked, his red eyes meeting mine. Fear and embarrassment both fought for dominance in my body for a second before I felt my cheeks heat up. His little smirk got a little bit bigger once he saw that. However, once I was about to look away, I noticed that his smile disappeared, and he wasn't looking at me anymore. Well, he wasn't looking at my face. It was more my arms, to be exact. I glanced between my exposed wrist and his intense eyes.

"Brandon?" I mumbled. He didn't reply. Instead, he just kept gazing at my wrist. "Brandon? Helloooo?" Slowly, I uncrossed my arms and put down the glass to the side of me. His eyes never left my left wrist. My heart rate increased a little. What kind of trance was he in? Was he okay? "Brandon. Please just say something. I'm worried." Upon looking closer at his eyes, I saw that they were extremely dilated. Like, to the point where the red was almost gone and he looked like a real-life demon. Suddenly, in the blink of an eye, he was in front of me. A sharp gasp escaped my lips. I backed into the counter as far as I could. "Brandon, please. Stop." My voice was trembling with fear. He harshly grabbed my wrist and jerked it really close to his face, specifically the mouth area. My eyes widened in recognition of what he was trying to attempt, and I tried to pull myself out of his grasp. "Brandon!" His eyes tore away from my wrist and up to my eyes, and I watched as they slowly returned to their normal state. A confused look suddenly made its way onto his face as he looked at my scared self.

"What's wrong?" he asked before he looked down at his fingers, which were still around my wrist. His eyes got big with surprise, and he immediately released me and shook his head. He had a scared and disgusted look on his face. "No, no, no, no, no. Oh God. What have I done?" He stepped away from my shaking frame and looked me up and down. "Willa, I'm so sorry. It... it... got the best of me. I lost control. I am so sorry. I didn't mean to." I couldn't speak. As much as I wanted to tell him it was okay, I couldn't force any words out of my mouth. "Oh my God." He covered his face with his hands for a second before bringing them to his sides again.

"It's okay," I finally choked out after a minute. The shaking had gone down a little bit.

"No, it's not okay. I almost killed you without a second thought. That is not okay at all," he countered. He paced around in the same spot before heading towards the door that led back to the dining room. "I need to calm down."

"Brandon," I exclaimed, quickly following after him. He rushed through the dining room and into the main room, where Orrey was dusting the railing for the staircase to the right. "Brandon!"

"Willa, please just let me go calm down," Brandon hurriedly demanded as he practically ran up the right staircase. Once he reached the top, he hurried into his study and slammed the door shut. A few moments of silence passed before Orrey sighed and laid the duster on one of the stairs.

"Are you okay, dear?" he muttered, looking over at me. I nodded, dazed at what I just experienced. "Well then, let's go ahead and get you home."
