Missed Chances

Star's POV

She saw Marco out of the corner of her eye as she kissed Tom. Saw the absolutely crushed look he wore on his face, and she couldn't help but wonder why? It's not like he likes me. Right? He had dated Jackie, he had said nothing when I admitted I had a crush on him. And then she thought about it. Really thought about it. The way he acted when he first showed up on Mewni unannounced and found out she was dating Tom again. Then she thought about the way she treated him when he first arrived, how she tried to get rid of him. I've- I've treated him horribly. Like he wasn't my best bestie, like he was just a slave.. Marco had given up everything to come to Mewni to be with her. School, family, Jackie, his whole life. Just for her. Maybe... maybe he does like me back.

Then she saw him walk away, shoulders drooped. It all hit her then. What am I doing? Why am I kissing Tom? Why am I with Tom and not Marco? She quickly broke the kiss, apologized to Tom with a hurried "Sorry gotta go!" And then she was off in search of Marco.

Marco's POV

Why does it hurt so much? He didn't mean to see this, he didn't want to see this, but he had. He watched Star and Tom kiss, and he felt his heart break. He couldn't bare to be here a second longer, and so he walked off, broken inside.
Somewhere along the line he ended up in a tower with Kelly, just talking with her. He had to admit, it helped, a lot. Kelly was easy to talk to. He had given her his hoodie to keep her warm. And then she scooted closer and wrapped the hoodie around both of them as they watched the Soulrise and talked. It's actually amazing and really beautiful in its weird way. He was glad he got the chance to see it, even if the night wasn't the best.
"Is it past midnight?" I asked.
"Yeah," she answered.
"Then it's my birthday."
"Happy birthday Marco Diaz."
Maybe things weren't so bad after all..

Star's POV

She didn't know how to feel when she saw him and Kelly up in the tower, with Kelly and Marco wrapped up in his hoodie together. So she felt hurt, but that was wrong, she had hurt Marco first, she had kissed Tom first. Did I really miss my chance again? I really messed up. Why had she gone back to Tom? She already knew the answer though, she had done it because Marco wasn't with her, and she had no idea when she'd see him again or even if she would. And so she had gone back to Tom, to try and fill the hole that Marco had left. And now it looks like I'm too late again. Things weren't supposed to be like this. She knew that, but why? Why was she so sure that her and Marco were supposed to be together? And then it hit her like a ton of bricks. The Blood Moon Ball. We danced together under the light of the Blood Moon. Our souls are bound together for eternity. And so, upset, but with a new hope and small sad smile on her face, Star walked back off the beach, towards the site where they had set up on the beach.
