The Marriage Law- A Harry Potter Fanfiction

The letter

April 9th, 1998
HERMIONE'S POV

It's almost a year after the war. Wow. How could that be? It seems that just a couple weeks ago, our little trio was wandering through forests looking for horcruxes. It seemed that just a few days ago, Ron and I kissed in the chamber of secrets. Just a few hours ago that Voldemort told us Harry was dead. Just a few minutes ago that Harry and I kisse............that was nice. Nobody knew about Harry and I. We were something for a couple days, but we quickly broke it off. I broke it off. That was the worst thing I had ever done.
       Ron and I had been dating now for 5 months. Today was our 5 month anniversary, actually. I had to admit though, Ron had been gone a lot now, with his new job, and he seemed really distant. He got home late. Yes, we are living together.
KNOCK!! KNOCK!! KNOCK!!
I looked over at the window. It was a mostly brown owl, with a little bit of white. I didn't recognize it. I opened the window, took the letter from the owl, and gave it its payment. I opened to the letter, and it read:

Dear Ms.Granger, After the war, the magical population has gone down significantly. The Ministry of Magic has created a new law. It goes as follows:

Any Pureblood, Halfblood, or Magical Muggleborn throughout Europe must Follow this Marriage law.
Here are the rules:

1. You find the person to get married to within 2 weeks of today's date, April 9th, 1997, and tell the Ministry (Immediately) who you have chosen. If you do not complete this step, you will take a Ministry given survey and be matched with a partner.

2. Get to know your partner enough to be comfortable around them. Ask them some questions about themselves. We have included a packet of good questions to use.

4. Within 3 months of letting the Ministry know who your partner is, you must be married.

5.You must have 1 child, or be expecting a child within a year of marriage.

4. Muggleborns may NOT marry other muggleborns. A Muggleborn may marry a Halfblood or Pureblood only.

If you do not complete these steps within the correct time frames, your wands will be snapped, and you will be banished into the muggles world.

Oh.......my............gosh.......

You know what's sad? My first thought was 'Oh gosh. I have to break up with Ron so I don't have to marry him.'

"Oh my gosh!!" I quietly scolded myself, "but..." I mumbled aloud, "it's what I need to do."

I got some floor powder, and flooed to the Ron's office at the Ministry.

"Ron?" I said, as he turned around to look at me.

"Hey Mione!! What are you doing here?"

"Ron, we need to talk."
