one week later...Cannely King High School was abuzz unlike it ever had been before, and Chase Harris had never been more convinced he was living in a parallel universe.
The halls were adorned with the hottest, most popular girls in school, talking to, fondling, or just straight up making out with none other than. The nerds. Your robotics club, AP calculus, national science society loving nerds. The utter dorks. The bottom of the high school food chain.
All week Chase had been too busy holed up in the library studying to notice Cannely King High's new miracle. And that miracle went by the name Zo James.
Chase rushed to the aviation room in search of Dill, knowing his gossip loving best friend would know what the hell had happened. His eyes came across a tiny fro in the distance and he knew he was there.
"Dylan Samuel Gray, please tell me you did not make a deal with the devil, I told you to throw away the fucking ouija board!" Chase glared down mock seriously at Dill who held a mischievous smile.
"Is somebody cranky because he's all alone whereas all the other dorks in school are getting laid? If you want to quit the bet you can Chasey. Lemme just prepare myself for Janey," Dill said cheekily as he squirted breath spray in his mouth.
"Hell no. I just want to know which member of the physics club opened up the second dimension." Chase sat down with an expression of pure confusion.
"This my friend, was not the work of science, witch craft, or any other stephen king plot. This was all Zo." Chase twisted his face in confusion, still oblivious to the hype of the school, and Dill continued. "Zo James. Smoking hot new girl. Bad as can be. A true miracle worker in the art of de-friendoning. The woman of my dreams, second to your sister of course." Dill threw in a cheeky smirk at the end.
Chase still didn't show any recognition so Dill continued. "Blonde hair. Piercing, soul sucking, yet oddly arousing stare. A body that could bring Kim K to sham-"
Chase covered Dill's mouth in respect for the poor girl his friend was degrading.
Dill pushed his hand away giving him a delicious grin, "Any way, how is the bet going, hm? Found any girls to make your moves on?"
Chase thought of the few girls he had approached in the weeks prior that had either friend zoned him or made him their tutor.
"Yeah. A few. I think it's always good to have some side chicks ya know?" Chase flinched a little at his douchey tone and came to a strong conclusion. He needed to find Zo James.
***
Zo James was utterly exhausted. She loved helping people in need but it sure took it out of ya, especially when you're a new kid catching up on your school work. And frankly, she was bored with all the cases she had helped because they were all so easy. Zo James strived to keep busy, and so Zo James was looking for a project.
That is, up until she ran right into Chase Harris. Zo stumbled back a bit and Chase dropped all his books. She remembered him from her history class. She never forgot a face, especially one with eyes like his. So blue and so focused. She noticed he wasn't wearing his glasses that day.
It made her frown.
When Chase Harris looked up after frantically picking up his books he was less embarrassed because he couldn't believe his luck. He looked at the girl in front of him and took note of her appearance. He definitely hadn't seen her before, so new. Check. Bad, judging off her dark and edgy appearance he would say yeah. Check. Blonde. Check. Piercing, soul sucking, yet oddly arousi-
He looked into her eyes. Check. He tried to think of a way to start talking to her when her voice came out to him, melodic yet frighteningly confident.
"Zo James." She stuck out her hand and he shook it awkwardly balancing his books.
"I know," Chase mumbled trying not to let this girl intimidate him. Chase was not as bad with people as the rest of his dorky peers but there was something about this specific girl that could make anyone nervous.
She laughed and the sound, he thought, was really quite beautiful.
"Seems like I've already developed quite the reputation here," Zo smiled in a way that on any other girl would seem flirtatious but on her was just genuine and kind.
Chase regained his bearings and took a glance around the hall gesturing to Dick Soloman sloppily making out with a cheerleader against the lockers, "I think it's fair to say you've made quite the impression."
"What can I say? I like making a difference in people's lives." Zo smiled again and noticed how Chase didn't shift uncomfortably. She liked that. She liked that he could act normal around her.
"Speaking of which, I know this is totally strange and rude, I mean quite out of line but to be honest I'm pretty desperate," Chase couldn't help but ramble, "I would like to enlist your....services."
Zo goes to interrupt him abruptly and then he rushes out, "No! Wait! I didn't mean for it to come out like that! Advice. I would just like your advice. I made a bet with my friend that I could get a girlfriend by Prom and without you I think I would be hopeless."
The gears in Zo's head started to turn and as Chase waited for her answer he got nervous. Why on earth would she want to help him? He was a stranger. A nerdy and weird stranger at that. She probably had better things to do with her time.
"What exactly would this job entail?" Zo questions with a quirk of her perfectly manicured brow.
Chase smiled with relief, "Just like teaching me what to say and how to act, just what to do on dates, stuff like that. How to get the girl basically."
"And what would I get in return?" Zo replied with a quirk of her brow.
"I could tutor you!" Chase quickly said. "Not that you would care about school or whatever but like if you wanted to get the heck out of high school quicker my tutoring could help that." Chase looked away trying to maintain his composure.
Zo tapped her boot a bit and gave it some thought. Though her mind was made up as soon as he said he needed help.
"Alright."
Chase looked up at her with shock and disbelief. "You'll help me?"
"Why the hell not? Let's make you hot, nerd boy."
