I was shaken awake by nurse Eva the woman who looked after me while I slept.

Creepy right?

This place had people staring at you in your bed while you slept...good thing most of them weren't good at their jobs.

"You have visitors." She said.

I stood up and followed Eva to an office down the hall still half asleep. Who ever it was they better be worth my sleep...I don't play with my sleep.

She opened the office door and beckoned for me to step in. I started slowing down in my path not sure if I wanted to be left alone in a room with the person I was starting to notice. At least not right now.

"I will be right outside the door if you need me and I'll keep the door half opened." Eva said right before stepping out.

I stood exactly where I came in and played with my finger nails. I started nodding my head to an off beat rhythm as I tried to fine something on the plain white walls to look at as an excuse for not making eye contact.

"Why are you standing so far?" He said.

I've heard that calm sweet and raspy voice before but somehow it still sounded foreign to me, like I hadn't fallen in love with it before once upon another time.

I strolled over to the other side of the table suddenly finding my plain black slippers interesting. I pulled my chair in so that he didn't see my thighs trembling out of control underneath the table. He intertwined his hands and I could feel his eyes burning through the side of my head but I wasn't turning around. Nope, not today.

"I miss you." He said.

I flashed him a concerned look not quite sure what he had in mind but looking at him for just a few seconds I could tell he was serious. His hair wasn't in a mohawk anymore but just simply cut short. I hadn't seen the dude in ages which is why it was a deal breaker that out of all people he was the first one who came and saw me. The last time I'd seen him was at Al's funeral which was like...how long ago again? I quickly turned away.

"Look Lyrika, I really need to talk to you." He said.

"What Randy?" I asked with a sigh.

"First of, I am so so sorry for the hard time that you're going through right now," Randy said, "and I don't know if you already heard this, but we lost another one."

His words caught my attention making my heart sink. "Who died?" I forced out my clogged throat.

He ran a shaky hand through his hair and exhaled a heavy amount of air, "Demitri" he said, "it just happened so fast."

My heart started racing at an insane speed taking my breath with it. My palm and my forehead was letting out all the moisture that my throat was desperately begging for. I winced as I cocked my light head to the side singling for explanation.

"His heart stopped working", Randy said, "it already wasn't functioning well after the accident and on top of that he started working out. I told him 'no' but he insisted that since he was able to walk again he needed to get back in shape for football because the draft was his only hope since he dropped out of school."

"Why didn't his mom try to stop him or something? I mean, they knew that his heart wasn't functioning well and they just let him work out? And he's 15, what draft was he going to enter?" I asked.

"He didn't have parents. Al was the only one he had. So no one cared about what he ate or what he did with his life. That's why he stopped coming to school. He said something about the earlier you start the better, I don't know, he was too hard on himself. The workouts where ridiculous." Randy answered.
