Summary: a switch up in fate leads the Cullen's to arrive in Forks a year after Bella comes to stay with her dad. On a hunt for their anniversary, Carlisle and Esme come a cross a dying Bella in the middle of the woods. Sparing her life they take her back to their home where the eldest of the Cullen children sees her more than a sister, but as his mate.
Carlisle's POV:
Every time I look down into my wife's eyes, I still have trouble believing she's real. Today would mark our eightieth wedding anniversary, and to say that these decades with her by my side have been the most wonderful years I've ever had, was truly an understatement. The years we spent alone when our Edward left us, were the years I spent helping her forget the torturous way her last husband had treated her. It took many years of attentive care and love for her to be able to fully settle in my arms; even after Edward came home and Rosalie joined us, she still flinched if I approached her from behind.
I shook my head at the memory, it brought me great sadness at the mistreat of Esme back in 1919. Every time I glance into her eyes, I see nothing but happiness and kind heartedness, a trait any sane man would cherish. Her need to nurture and protect our family was an inspiration to me, she was the greatest woman I knew. How could someone ever mistreat her so?
We decided to return to the state of Washington, as myself, Edward, Esme, Rosalie and Emmett enjoyed our stay back in 1936. I was sure that Ephraim Black had the treaty passed on through the generations, though I do suspect that their gene died out long ago. However, we must have a meeting with the Quileute tribe in a few days, I'm sure they'll be as understanding as their ancestors.
"I can't believe how fast eighty years have flown by," Edward approached me on the Balcony of our new home with a smile. "How does it feel?"
As he reached the bannister, I placed a hand on his shoulder. His warm chestnut eyes followed my gaze to the forest; the wet moss and damp bark refreshing and oddly satisfying. I know everyone was relieved to have the fresh air without the sweet scent of human blood lingering, they were all in a good need of a vacation or some alone time with each other.
"It feels unreal," I smiled at the thought of her, My beautiful wife. "She is my whole world, I sometimes forget that I existed without her." I hummed at the memory of her long caramel locks and wide beautiful eyes as they stared up at me with love and adoration. She had pressed her hands against my cheeks with a small giggle before softly pressing her lips to mine.
I sighed when I realised what I had said, I'm sorry Edward, I know it must be hard for you to be alone in a house full of mated vampires. I should control my thoughts.
"No need to apologise Carlisle, you may be my father figure but your also her husband," he paused with a small chuckle before continuing, "you were alone a lot longer than me. Be happy, you've been married for eighty long years. Go celebrate. But regardless, she's still my mom." he winked.
