My name is Rue and I'm from district 11. In about a week our center square will be transformed from what we the people of district 11 all know it as to a stage with cameras and lights. Why you may ask, because next week, on the last day of the week to be exact, is the reaping. It's my first reaping and my name was entered into the girl's reaping bowel, once so the odds are in my favor, I hope. The reason I said that this is my first year of the reaping is because this is the first year that I am able to be placed in and accounted for.
You see when your between the ages of 12-18 your name is entered into the boy's reaping bowel if your a boy or the girl's reaping bowel if your a girl. At this time in your young life, you are forced by the capital, Panem, to go the the square on a set day and hear two names being read aloud, along with other things that are being read aloud, though no one pays any mind to those other things just the two names. The owner's of those two names one being a boy's name and the other being a girl's name have to come forward at the time their name is called. They normally call the girl's name first because it's always " ladies first ".
Anyways, these two people well teens to be more exact come up and they are now tributes. They go to the capital to train and all that. Then they get sent to a arena where they have to fight to the death and only one remains alive. There are 24 teens in the arena all together. These arena and games of death are called the hunger games, and we are suppose to treat this as if it were a real holiday. YEAH RIGHT!! Anyways. This year I am 12 and, I'm not looking forward to it, but again there's little to no chance they will pull my name, so the odds are in my favor, again I hope.
