Pandemonium erupted.
I looked to Pyralis as realisation flashed in her eyes. "Jaya," she whispered, eyes fixated on the conflagrant barrier crumbling before us.
In a heartbeat she had warped out - to Jaya. I turned to Kaine and found he was ushering people out, defending them from falling debris. As a chunk of wall flew out in the direction of a child I used my vampiric speed to move him out of the building. I lifted groups of children and less mobile people out of the building and away from the scene. This continued until everyone was out of the dining area. Then, Kaine and I proceeded to the kitchen. Fuel and foodstuffs burned a barrier before the entrance, but the line was too straight, the flame too high, the heat too intense - it wasn't natural. I tried running full-speed at it to create a vacuum to allow me through, to no avail. I suggested Kaine warp to the other side, but when he did it looked like he'd just been electrocuted - harshly. He tried to diffuse it with his Power, but the wall didn't waver.
"Pyralis!" I yelled. "Jaya! We can't get through!"
"That's because it's sealed."
We turned to see Pyralis supporting Jaya who looked like she had broken a leg or something.
"What happened?" Kaine asked.
"No time for that," Pyralis said, easing Jaya off her shoulders. "Contact, everyone. Now." We all held hands and closed our eyes. "Dispergerem!"
The noise, smoke and fire was left behind and we were greeted with fresh air and a cooling breeze. I opened my eyes to see that we were stood before a large white house. It wasn't big enough to be a mansion, but it was easily three times the size of the house Mama, Liam, Zylaar and I had lived in back in Japan. I looked around to see Pyralis propping Jaya up with what looked like a lot of difficulty and I remembered Kaine once telling me that warping took a considerable amount of energy out of a sorcerer. With Pyralis having done it twice today, she was no fit state to lift, let alone support, Jaya. So I zipped over and took Jaya into my arms in one smooth movement, careful not to disturb either leg since I couldn't recall which she had been limping on. Pyralis sighed and nodded her thanks to me, gesturing for me to walk towards the house. Kaine joined us a while later when he had regained consciousness and offered to carry Jaya, but I declined, reminding him I was still stronger than him. A man in black stepped out of the front door and the shock on his face from what he saw was all too clear.
"Kaine, Dana, this is Jai," Pyralis introduced.
He opened his mouth to speak, but no sound came out. He closed it and reopened it several times before saying, "Pyralis, why--" but he stopped when his eyes fell on Kaine.
Pyralis was now standing by Jai, but Kaine had stopped and so I had stayed with him.
"Jai, he doesn't know," Pyralis warned in a low tone I wouldn't be able to hear without the acute hearing that came with being a vampire.
Jai's eyes widened. "Well, he should."
What were they talking about? Who doesn't know? Kaine? Know what, exactly? I decided to keep this to myself for now, or at least until I had more information.
"Come inside," Pyralis ordered and pushed past Jai. "Get Jaya in here."
The still somewhat stunned Jai stepped aside to let me and Jaya through. I followed Pyralis into a bare room with a stone altar-like table and laid Jaya down on it as Pyralis instructed me to.
"Kaine, the healing spell, if you would," she ordered more than requested.
Kaine mumbled quickly and quietly in Latin with his palms over Jaya's left leg as Pyralis acquired the aid of Jai; he with his palms cradling either side of Jaya's head from the end of the table and she with her palms crossed over one another over Jaya's heart.
