DING! DING! DING!
I woke up in a cold sweat and wiped hot tears from my eyes as I turned my alarm off. Rain pounded against the window heavily. It was just a nightmare. That place was never real. I told myself every time I had that dream, but never could shake that I was lying to myself. Shaking it off, I got out of bed and grabbed my clothes and my phone, heading to the bathroom. I turned the shower on, and sat against the bathroom floor scrolling through Tumblr while I waited for the room to fill with steam. I stepped in and washed myself off, trying to scrub my mind clear.
I finished quickly so I wouldn't use all the hot water and got dressed. Pulling on my favorite grey hoodie over my Peter Pan tshirt and squirmed into a pair of jeans, I dried my hair off and turned on Pandora. A peek out the door confirmed everyone was still asleep, so nobody would be able tell me to turn it off for at least another thirty minutes. Check Yes Juliet by We The Kings came on and I sang along as I started to straighten my hair.
Check yes Juliet, are you with me?
Rain is falling down on the sidewalk
I won't go until you come outside
Check yes Juliet, kill with the limbo
Ill keep tossing rocks at your window
There's no turning back for us tonight
Lace up your shoes, a-o-a-o
This is how we do, run baby run
Don't ever look back
They'll tear us apart
If you give them a chance..
As the song came to a close I finished pulling my wavy brown hair into a bun. I applied eyeliner and covered the dark circles under my eyes and ran out of the bathroom door. The smell of cooking pancakes and eggs hit me suddenly. I peeked over the banister and saw my parents arguing quietly as my mom gripped the spatula. I crept down the stairs as quietly as I could and into the kitchen.
"Goodmorning?" I asked, startling them. They jumped and turned around to look at me with blank confused eyes. It was the rare thing that either of them was here or awake the same time I was up and I suddenly remembered why I liked it that way.
My father put down his paper that he held rolled up. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY PRINCESS." They sang. It was now my turn to give them a blank look. "It's your birthday, Mary, don't you remember?" My dad asked cautiously.
It was my birthday, and I had totally forgotten. "I can't believe I forgot my own birthday. Sorry." I mumbled, while my face turned red, and sat down. My mom set down a plate of chocolate chip pancakes, bacon, and a tall glass of orange juice. She smiled at me and kissed me on the forehead before sitting down beside me at the table.
"Do you want to know what your present is?" She asked. I nodded since my mouth was full of food. "Well we're going to be taking you to Disneyland for a week. We haven't been in a while and it'll be a nice vacation for all of us." Mom said, grabbing my dad's hand and squeezing it softly. He looked like he wanted to pull away, but took one look at me and squeezed back.
I stared at them in surprise. This was unuual. Usually I got a gift card or something similar, but a trip to the happiest place on Earth?
"Wait you're serious?! When?" I asked excitement flooding my voice.
They laughed. " Yes, baby, we're serious. Next week okay? But we both have a business trip to go on overnight tonight. We know it's your birthday, but we have to go. So you'll be home alone tonight." dad said with an apologetic look. "You can have a friend over if you want though!"
I sighed internally. Of course there was a catch. There always was with them and they knew I didn't have any friends who would want to come over. "It's okay. I have school and stuff anyways. Ill be busy. I have to go. I'm going to be late." I said pushing my plate away and grabbing my bag from the stairs. "Bye."
My parents waved goodbye as I walked out of the door and headed to another long day of school. At least it was Friday.
---------------------------------------------Hey y'all!(: So how was this chapter? It was kinda boring I know, but I have to build up to the good parts. I have a really good idea, but I need to see if it's going to work out. Anyways so I think I need to describe Mary.
Mary is Boo's real name according to an picture she drew and put her name on in Monsters Inc. That's what I'm drawing this off of. I'm putting her to around the same age as myself, and she's a brunette who is about 5'4 or 5'5. I can see her personality as kind of shy, happy but sad at the same time, and she's really bubbly once you get to know her.
So yeah. Anyways if you have any questions comment away! Read, comment, vote! Thanks(:
~Mary
