One Month Later

"Bye, guys! Have a good day at work!" Nate and Em called back a goodbye to you before the door shut. You smiled because you loved how your kids had jobs. Not only were they learning responsibility, but you had every kid out of the house when they left.

Despite summer being almost over, Scar still had her extracurricular classes and Conner still had soccer. Ben, for once, didn't have anything going on, so you had the house to yourselves six hours a day.

"So, what part of the house do I get to take you on today?" He growled as he kissed down your neck. You giggled as you told him, "None because I am exhausted from dealing with our two demonic children this morning. I'm going to go take a nap."

He pouted, but you pecked a kiss on his lips and headed upstairs. Ben trudged into his office and planned on working since Plan A flew out the window. Just as he was about to send an email to Adam about the scheduling for their project starts, his phone started ringing. He didn't recognize the number, but answered it anyways.

"Hello?" He asked. "Benedict, it's Coach Harrison," the other line said. Ben perked up a bit and asked, "Is Conner alright?" One of his biggest fears is his son getting hurt playing sports. "Um...well, he got into a fight with one of the other boys. I'm going to need you to come down here to pick him up."

Sighing heavily, Ben got up and said, "I'm on my way." He didn't bother to wake you, as you were out like a light, so he went down himself. This was the first time this has happened since he got into a fight with Samantha's son at school.

Ben angrily walked up to where he could see his son sitting on the bench with his head hanging low. Coach Harrison was speaking with him, but stopped once he saw Ben. "What happened?" Ben asked when he approached them. Coach Harrison looked down at Conner and said, "You should do the explaining."

Conner slowly looked up at his clearly upset father and sighed. "I got into a fight," he mumbled. "With whom?" Ben sharply asked. Conner pointed across the field. "You have got to be kidding me," Ben grumbled before storming over to the other kid and his parent.

"Are you purposefully trying to get my son in trouble?" Ben angrily asked as he walked over to Samantha and her son. She scoffed, "How dare you! My son was practicing on his team across the field when you're little devil boy attacked him!" Ben chuckled and shook his head. "My son wouldn't just attack someone," he defended, "not unless he was feeling threatened."

Samantha stood nearly toe-to-toe with him. "Where's your wife?" She lowly asked. Ben took in a sharp breath before saying, "None of your damn business." She bit her bottom lip, then said, "In that case, why don't we go settle this in a more...private place?"

Ben's eyes moved from her's to her chest, then back up. "Fuck off," he spat. He quickly turned, then started walking back towards Conner. "We're leaving," he told him. Conner grabbed his things, then followed Ben to the car. "Are you mad, daddy?" He asked.

Ben sighed, then shrugged and told him, "Yeah, a bit. This is the second time, Conner, and I told you that if it happened again, you would be grounded. Well, you're grounded for a week. No T.V., no video games, no dessert. This has to stop." Conner looked down with tears filling his eyes.

"Explain to me what happened," Ben said. Conner told him that Samantha's son was heckling him from the other field. He said he tried to ignore it, but then he started kicking the soccer balls over at Conner and a couple even hit his head. "I'm sorry," he mumbled.

It was difficult to be mad at this kid. "You're still grounded," Ben told him. "I understand you defending yourself, but you should have told Coach Harrison. You're lucky you're still on the team." He pulled up to the driveway and Conner immediately got out and ran into the house.
