Secondhand Fandom Disease (SHFD)

Today I will be discussing a little thing I like to call secondhand fandom disease. This is a disease where you start understanding things in a fandom that you aren't even in. I.e. @emmyrox912 (not to name names) has basically told me everything I need to know about Sherlock, and I HAVEN'T EVEN WATCHED A SINGLE EPISODE.

This can be a good or bad thing. It is a good thing when your friend is talking to you about the fandom, because you at least have a basic idea of what they're talking about. It is a very VERY bad thing when you start referencing something from another fandom that you don't understand, and one of these things happens:

1) the person starts crying

2) the person starts giving you a long lecture about what you were referencing

3) the person asks you what the thing means to you.

This last one is the ABSOLUTE WORST, considering that you don't have a clue what they're talking about, and then when you lie you look like an idiot, and when you don't you look like even more of an idiot.
