What have we done? 25.7.10
The dough was softly needed into green mountains.
The little sheep scattered all over the sloping mounds slowly faded blowing with the wind. The old fashioned rock cottages faded as well. The sky is dark and was holding violent grey clouds.
Across the other field were cow's and bull's, there was a big black bull staring at me over the distance. His big clear, knowing eyes widened slightly and his strong horns started to disappear just like the sheep's bodies had. His body gradually disappeared like it was a pile of dust being carried in the wind. The rest of the heard disappeared into the gush of oxygen.
I spun around looking if this was a joke or a type of trick.
All of the fences, roads and electricity poles had faded, it was just me and the mountains that were still solid. The wine crops painted over the fields had also disappeared.
The ground shook and made an ear-splitting 'Crack!'
A big gap split around me. I spun around watching the dark crack circle around me with wide eyes.
The circle was around me trapping me within a few meters of its diameter. I felt like the sheep having no way to escape from its own fate. I couldn't jump over the gap that was making me stranded, I didn't have the run up. Another loud 'Crack' disrupted my examinations. The noise was more muted, as though it had split thick rock deep within the Earth.
The ground shook again, but more violently. I found myself on my hands and knees, panting in fear. This was not normal. The circle I was in started to rise from the lower grass, about a few feet. The lower grass beneath me looked like it was growing. Although it couldn't possibly be growing at the rate it looked like it was. Only it was real, it was growing higher and wilder in just seconds. The little stage I was on seemed to be lifting out of its original position in the Earth's core. The sky was clearing, the less violent wind blowing away the dark clouds. Then suddenly the circular patch I was on 'whooshed' up toward the sky, swallowing me in the light blue heavens.
When my grassy platform abruptly stopped after the huge speed it was just going. I waited until I was curtain it wouldn't move again, and then I scrambled up onto my feet. When I saw what had happened to the Earth I once knew, I gasped. The wind was whipping past me, I was afraid it would suddenly turn me to dust and blow me into a distant memory - like the poor animals and grape vines. It felt like I was on one of the highest mountains in my old world, maybe even the red rock Uluru. Civilisation and my hometown had evaporated as though an alien colony had come and snatched it away from me. The sky looked so much clearer despite the few fluffy white clouds. There was only the sight of our world unpolluted with lush forests and wild animals, none of the factories and homes and climate change, just pure clean air whipping past me. I wondered if all the humans and my family had disappeared as well, I am probably the only human left on this new Earth. The view stretched on passed the horizon, our healthy young Earth. I smiled without even controlling the action. The rivers, forest, seas, clear skies, fresh air, cliffs and strange but beautiful animals were all here. 'The Earth is beautiful.' I thought to myself. It was as though my Earth wanted to show possibly the last human on Earth what it was like before our kind came and destroyed this beautiful Earth.
After a few minutes of admiring the view the picture changed, the forests were evaporating just like the cows, city and grape vine fields had. The factories slowly came back making the temperature change; it got warmer even though the cool breeze was still ruffling my hair. The huge factories replaced the green tall hills pumping large clouds of toxic gas into the oxygen. I looked up the sky, the sun looked brighter and it burnt my skin making my cheeks warmer and flush red. When I looked at the view below me I felt something inside me tear a little. The brilliant forests was turning an old colour, it looked like it was dying. The exotic animals slowly fell to the ground. My brain was trying to figure out what was happening to the once beautiful picture. The scene changed in slow motion for my eyes. The once bright flower fields curled up and there vibrate colours faded to a dark brown. There was only pollution and over population.
"NO!" I screamed. I knew what was happening. The factories were polluting the environment. Killing everything very slowly. I had to do something! "NO! STOP!" I yelled again, hoping someone or something could hear me and make the pain stop. A ache in my chest was growing, I had to help the Earth. My Earth. The view continued the change to its horrible state. I needed to leave a message for the next set of humans or intelligent life on this planet - to help it, to preserve what we once had and so easily destroyed - when I was gone. But I was still stranded on this patch of dead grass, I couldn't do anything to help now, it was out of control, past any form of help. We should have helped the Earth while we could have, when we had the chance. To prevent everything and everyone from dying. Even my family and all humans.
