You And Me

"You deserve to be with a girl who knows what she has when she has you."
1st Grade
Do you remember the first time I met you? Do you remember that chocolate covered stain on your Go Diego shirt? Do you remember our teacher Ms. Hags? The teacher who had the name for a reason? Do you remember? Well I do. Mayfield Elementary school was pretty big. It had an enormous lot, and the building looks likes a High School building rather then an Elementary school and lastly, it was right next to the public park. Pretty great huh?
Out of all places they built a school next to a park. I thought that was bad choice, cause in reality everyone wanted to go to the other playground. It had swings. That was a deal breaker. Our crappy playground only had a slide that was on the verge of breaking, monkey bars that were getting rusty and a seesaw that was in need of a paint job. But I guess that's okay though, out of all places I met you here.
Do you remember our first conversation? Do you remember what
you ate? I did. You ate Lunchables awhile I brought in food from home. Rice and beef. At first I always felt conscious, cause who brought rice for lunch? This was America. That's right folks, I wasn't born here. I was born in Tokyo, Japan. Otherwise known as the birthplace for Hello Kitty.
You see, my dad lived all the way in New York and after 7 years apart, we finally saved up to move to the city that never sleeps. New York.
Let's get one thing straight. I didn't know any English. Well no, that's a lie. In fact, I was pretty fluent in it. They made us learn English in Tokyo. But that wasn't the point, I refused to talk, but you managed to get a few words out of me. It was recess after lunch, and all the kids were running around like baboons, begging to go the public playground. Unfortunately the teachers said no.
I lingered back and watched them run off, back at home I would be in the library reading. Hey! I haven't even seen the library here; maybe I can go sneak off. Although, as I was about to ask a teacher, I felt a cold tap on my shoulder. I froze and slowly turned around, and then there you were. Grinning from ear to ear, about to ask a question (followed by more questions) that I would surely never forget.
"Do you want half of my cookie? I saved it from lunch earlier, and then I saw you standing here and thought you would like some. You seem lonely. What's your name? Do you like Pokemon? The name is Jack."
Whoever said that food is the way to a man's heart was wrong. It was to a girl's heart as well, because soon enough I found myself saying,
"Yes."
