This was a poem I wrote for a school project. Part of the project was taking excerpts from other pieces and then creating your own around them. I picked the songs “father of mine” by Everclear, and “holding on to you” by twenty one pilots. The smaller fonts are the lyrics taken from the songs.

Questions of ignorance.

I hear them often and they never fail to offend me.

Sometimes I feel you must be an infant…. in this instance

Because how could one ask a question of such judgment?

Someone once said to me “Why are you so fun if you're a Christian?”

This question created a stinging in my side

To think those of my own faith would not abide

Being a Christian is acceptance and understanding

Not abandonment and commanding

Father of mine Tell me where did you go You had the world inside your hand But you did not seem to know Father of mine Tell me what do you see When you look back at your wasted life and you don't see me

I’ve been asked why I forgive so easily.

But it is not easy really

Being Christian is to forgiveness

Not to hold a grudge or release stubbornness

Comments of ignorance

They are believed to be of such brilliance or that of a wonderful resistance

Just blurting out sentences about subjects you know nothing about.

But yet they are said without doubt

The word retard was once a medical term

But is now a insult

An ignorant verbal assault

When I hear this word I think of every special needs person stuck in a body to trap there brilliance!

I think of my brother

I think of friends who wouldn't come to my house because “he was weird”

I never stood up for him but I should've stood up for him

Should have stood up for my flesh and blood he is

Lean with it, rock with it, When we gonna stop with it, Lyrics that mean nothing, we were gifted with thought, Is it time to move our feet to an introspective beat, It ain't the speakers that bump hearts, it's our hearts that make the beat.
