By Monday, everyone was talking about the new family, mainly about Mrs. Grower's grandchildren. They would talk about the three with their group of friends. I didn't see the other two, but I learned that the two that I haven't really seen were both boys. That the two of them looked like each other and there was even talk that maybe they were twins. Though, someone confirmed that they couldn't be twins because of the fact that one works at their grandmother's bakery and that he was the oldest out of the three.
Which left the other two, the youngest son and only daughter.
No one was sure about the school that the two were going to, only that one was in the middle school and that the other was in high school. There were still those who were saying that the other son was the one in high school, since he looked older than the daughter. Others were saying that was not a good reason to go with, saying that the son could be in middle school. It caused for small, yet petty arguments occur before the day even began.
I was even able to witness one of the arguments by my locker. It was none other than my good friend who was talking to a senior. The two were standing in front of my locker and were talking about the current topic that the others were talking about. They were so into their conversation that they didn't even notice me standing in front of them, waiting for the two to move out of the way. Even when I tried to catch their attention by clearing my throat it didn't work. Thus, in the end, I just went ahead with pushing my friend out of the way the best I could and began to open my locker. As I did so, I began to listen to their conversation.
"I'm telling you, Adie, the daughter gotta be the one in high school."
Adie scoffed at that point. "You're only saying that because you just want to see her and try to get know her."
"And what's wrong with that?"
"There's a lot of things wrong with that, Harry, but I'm sure you wouldn't understand." Pushing a strand of hair behind her ear, she continued. "I still think it'll be the son and not because I'm like you."
Rolling his eyes, Harry finally noticed my presence and decided to ask me for my opinion. Shrugging my shoulders, I began to put my bag inside of my locker. "It doesn't really matter to me, whoever it is will be here with us and that'll be cool."
Because of my answer, Adie smiled at that and patted my head as if I were a child. "See that, you should be more like Lexi here. She probably would love to meet the student to actually befriend them, no matter if they'll turn out to be the son or daughter," she said. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to get ready for my first class. I'll see you guys later."
As she walked away, Harry simply narrowed his eyes as I closed my locker door. "You know, if she wasn't family, I would've snapped at her for calling me a dog."
"Oh please," I began. "We both know that you're too soft to snap at anyone." Which was true. Despite how Harry tried to present himself in front of everyone, he was actually a teddy bear that didn't want anyone to know that about him. Because if you acted soft every single day around here, then people will try to pick on you. And Harry didn't want anyone picking on him.
Shoving me into my locker, Harry laughed at me. "Bite me."
"Harry please, we're in public. But if you want me to, then I guess I will." This caused him to laugh even harder and to push me away. I laughed alongside him, shaking my head at how idiotic the two of us were. "Come on, let's get to class," I said as we made our way to our first bell.
The entire way there, the two of us talked about nothing but also everything. About the weather, about my dog, about homework, about video games, back to my dog, and then to more video games. Harry was going on and on about an online game that he found one day and was expecting for it to be lame or whatever, but found himself actually enjoying the game and playing it for the next six hours. I wasn't shocked by that, it was something that my best friend was pretty good at doing. Staying up all night to do something that wasn't his homework, but then found himself ready to pass out when he looked at his homework for one second.
"And I met this one kid on there and we ended up playing 'till almost two in the morning! I would've kept on playing, but the kid was saying how they needed to sleep because it was getting late and they have school the next day." He scoffed at that as they entered the classroom. "And I'm just thinking to myself like, "me too bud, but I'm over here saying fuck it so I can fuck up some trolls", but I kept that to myself and just decided to call it a night. Though, we promised to play again sometime tonight."
I just nodded my head, pulling out my chair and taking a seat. Lionel took the seat next to me and set his supplies on his desk. "So, I'm gonna go home, finish all of my homework, clean up a bit, and then get on immediately afterwards. What do you think would be a good time to get on? Sometime after five or six."
"I don't know dude, did you even ask them about what timezone that their in? Or a time that would great for them?"
Harry went silent for a bit before he let out a quiet, "fuck". I smiled at that point. Even though he was so excited about his new friend, he forgot to ask them about a time that worked for them. In all honesty, I thought that would've been the first thing you asked someone, well, other than their name. Then again, this was Harry and Harry had a one track mind. He was probably too excited about the new fantasy game and his new friend that he met to even ask some basic questions.
As he sat there, trying to figure out what he was going to do later that day, I pulled out my Chemistry notebook and pencil. Other students started to walk inside, some sitting in their own seats or going to talk to their friends. Our teacher Ms. Norris wasn't in the classroom yet, which I found strange. She was usually in the room before all of this. Did she even come to school that day or did she have to complete an errand before class started?
Shrugging my shoulders, I flipped open my notebook and looked over the homework that I did the night before. Just to give myself something to do since Ms. Norris wasn't in the room and Harry was still lost in his own thoughts.
Nearing two minutes until class actually started, Ms. Norris walked inside of the classroom and behind her was Her. When she walked in, I had only glanced up briefly, not really realizing who she was. I had to take a double take when I realized that it was her and I felt my heart stop.
I wasn't the only one who noticed her since everyone stopped talking as Ms. Norris walked to the front of the class with the girl. She introduced her to us, telling us her name, but I didn't catch it. I was too busy freaking out that she was in my first bell.
That she was in my grade.
That she was here.
And she was walking toward me, oh shit.
I continued to watch her as made her way past the black tables until she stopped at the one to my right. Pulling out the chair and putting her bookbag on the ground, she sat down and just looked around herself. When noticing that I was still looking at her, she flashed that smile of hers and I had to look away. Was I blushing? It felt like I was blushing.
Luckily, the bell rang and the morning announcements started. Usually, I would listen closely to whatever was being said, but I couldn't at that point.
Not with Her on my mind the entire time.
