Introduction-
The word promise literally means to assure someone that one will definitely do, give, or arrange something; undertake or declare that something will happen.
There's a very fine line from breaking and keeping a promise.
You should never break a promise.
That's what my father constantly told me anyways.
That was until he died.
Yeah I know tragic, a 17 year old girl abandoned by her mother, and soon after left to face the harsh world all alone after her father was killed for being involved with drugs and gangs.
From what you've heard he doesn't sound like the perfect type, in fact to the law, he was as a criminal, but I loved him more than anything in the world. No matter what caused me to have a frown, he'd know exactly how to make me feel better.
But thanks to the man that shot my father all the happiness and joy he put in my life soon vanished. I was no longer happy, and I've been living with the constant promise I've vowed to keep for not only my father, but for myself. I wasn't about to get myself involved in anything illegal, I did not want to end up like him.

~KATIE'S POV~
"Katie....Katie....Katie," a soft voice whispered into my ear.
It was aunt May, she's my father's sister, and once he passed away she adopted me.
"Wake up Katie," she sounded a little more demanding this time.
"Hurry up, or your going to be late for school, and we don't want that happening on your first day," May stated before pulling the curtains open.
"Okay, okay I'm up," my groggy voice let out.
I heard footsteps, then my door followed shut after it.
"Finally some peace and quiet," I muttered under my breath before pulling the pillow over my head.
"I mean it Katie, we can't afford you missing any hours of school, this is a new year and a new school, it's time to start fresh," she stated, I could here the frustration in her voice, seeping under the crack of my door.
I took a deep breath and rolled over on my side.
"Oh gosh!" I yelled. When I turned over, my eyes were immediately blinded by the ray of sun that beamed into my bedroom.
I finally sat up and pulled the covers off of me.
I walked to my window and pulled the curtains shut, which immediately relaxed my eyes.
My clock read 6:30 and I really needed to hurry up if I wanted to reach school at a decent time.
I hurried over to my bathroom where I washed my face and brushed my teeth. I quickly ran a brush through my hair and pulled it up into a high ponytail.
I curled and applied mascara to my lashes, and filled my eyebrows in.
Luckily I prepped an outfit the night before so I easily pulled it out of my closet and slipped it on. It was a red crop top that hugged tight to my body, some black high waisted ripped jeans, and my new pair of converse, basic but cute. I slipped on a white over throw that concealed my exposed back.
"You look cute, but next time where jeans that don't have rips in them," my aunt said, as she looked me up and down, making sure my outfit wasn't too "inappropriate". She was a church goer, and never approved of anything I wore, which really bugged me, because whenever I wanted to wear something a little more inappropriate she wouldn't allow it.
