[Suzu's P. O. V.]

I remember the day Kagami, my secretly sweet boyfriend, told me that he lost. The day he told me that despite all their hard work, and despite how hard they fought, they'd been crushed.

On that day I was sick, and I couldn't go anywhere beside my bed. Just a few days earlier, I'd been released from the hospital, but the doctors didn't allow me to go anywhere else but home. My cellphone vibrated noisily on the nightstand next to my bed, and after I saw the caller ID "Kitty," I snatched it up and opened the call.

"Kaga!" I cried happily, my heart aflutter in my chest. Seirin had to have won; they had so much going for them with the perfect team cooperation, and even if they were going up against someone from the Generation of Miracles, I had complete faith in that they were going to win. "How'd it go? You guys won, right?!"

There was a brief moment of dull silence from the other side. "...No," was all his hollow voice said from the other side. As soon as I had heard the two-lettered word, my heart sank.

"What...? But... are you sure? There must have been a mista—!"

"No. We lost."

And that was the end of it. After that, I heard the click of the end of the call. I sat frozen in bed, my phone still pressed up to my ear. My jaw couldn't help but hang open. I was in shock; how could've Seirin lost? I was so confident they were going to win!

I'd even told my mother that it wouldn't be worth going to the game because it was obvious they were going to win; she was always apologizing for having to keep me home. She liked the redhead; she thought he was very determined and just the type of person to help me break out of my shell, but either way, I supported him from the shadows.

Then here I am, standing behind a large brush holding a small sack that contains two bento boxes, one miniature and one extra, extra large. I'm watching Kagami practice basketball alone—which is not strange, but the strange thing is the way he's playing. Even from across the court, I can hear his loud panting. His eyes are darker and have a much more intense spark in them than usual. From the way he moves, I can see that he's stressed and frustrated with the way he had played; the techniques and actions he uses are ones I have never seen before.

The methodical way in which he moves is angry... and almost animalistic.

I want to call his name, but the way he plays puts me into a trance where I can do nothing but watch in awe.
