2: Blamed

Ravenwing stared numbly at Bramblestar's broken body. He still had two lives left! This couldn't be happening! Bramblestar twitched, and lay still, twitched, and lay still. Zero lives. Blackstar cut so deep that Bramblestar couldn't live. "Father..." Ravenwing sobbed.

"Bramblestar!" Squirrelflight stared at his limp body. Then she turned on Ravenwing. "Was it you?" Her mother spat. "No! It was Blackstar!" Ravenwing was stunned. "He had two more lives! You could've saved him! You are no daughter of mine!" Squirrelflight turned away. Ravenflight slunk out of the camp, barely aware of what she was doing. She curled up under a fallen tree trunk, her fluffy black tail wrapped around her body. She hoped no dreams-or nightmares- would come. Her luck didn't come through.

Ravenwing was standing on a barren hill. Her claws scratched onto rock. Squirrelflight's voice screamed at her. "You're a disgrace! No daughter of mine!" Bramblestar's limp body loomed in and out of view. "I didn't do it!" Ravenwing cried, sobbing and yowling. ThunderClan faces snarled at her, faded images rippling and tearing. The black she-cat tried to flee, but her body was frozen in place. She shut her eyes and spiraled into darkness. A howl pierced her sleep. "Ravenwing is here!" Bumblestripe pawed her in the stomach. The she-cat bolted upwards. Whitewing, Bumblestripe and Dovewing stood over her. A beam of sunlight slanted into the forest, pooling on the floor. "You missed the deputy ceremony. Bumblestripe is deputy." Whitewing nodded to the new deputy. Pride shone in the tom's eyes. "Squirrelstar wants you at camp. Urgent." Ravenwing sighed and lowered her head. "I'm sorry I ran. I was just mourning for my father. Was there any other deaths?" Dovewing lowered her tail. "Birchfall, Ivypool, Bramblestar and Jayfeather. Briarlight is the new medicine cat, Squirrelstar is leader. We need to go." Dovewing led her out into the forest.
