Dear M,
Be prepared for another unsent letter. I could never actually confess my love to you. Why happened between us was a one time thing and I know you've moved on. Not only that, but you've moved away. Away from your old life, old friends, and away from me.
Sometimes I get so hopelessly mad at you. Infuriated that you left me here. In this tiny town, with no friends. You were my light, my saving grace. But you left me. Alone.
But then I remember that you had it way worse than me, and I have no right to be mad. You deserved to get out of this place. It was no town for you. You should be in New York, or California. Which, hopefully, you are. You've stopped sending post cards...because I've stopped sending letters.
I'm sorry. I just can't bare to right you when my heart is still broken. Maybe one day.
Sincerely, VeeI couldn't believe I would finally be friends with Madeline. The next day she stopped me in the hallway, slipped a note in my pocket, and said "my place after school". Then walked off. God she had balls, she was so confident and never seemed scared.
She was only a year older than me, so it was weird that we seemed so far apart in age. I knew that I was just as mature as her, I had been told I was on old soul. But I never had that confidence.
When she was gone I pulled the paper out of my pocket. It had her address, phone number, and a note that read " I think we could be good friends. Call me sometime ;) see you later"
I shoved the paper back into the pocket of my overall shorts and walked hurriedly down the hall to my next class.

After school, I asked my mom if she could drop me off at my friends house. Since we were in middle school at the time, our parents still cared about our whereabouts. I gave her the address and we went there. She dropped me off and drove away hastily to go get my younger sister from her school.
I knocked on her door and a average size woman opened the door.
"Hi, is Madeline home?"
"Yes, I'm her mother Sara." She let me into the house and pointed down a hallway. "She's in her room, if you two need anything just let me know. " she had a sweet smile, but she looked worn out. I wondered if Madeline had siblings. There were toys strung about the house, so I assumed there was a young one somewhere.
When I got into Madeline room she shut the door and greeted me. I felt kind of weird at first because we had only spoken once or twice and now I was at her house. She seemed to break the ice pretty easily though.
"Do you like Oreos?" She said and giggled a little.
"Of course"
She made sure her door was closed, laughed and pulled an unopened box of Oreos out of a drawer. I laughed. "I have to hide them from my sisters." We both laughed and shared Oreos.
From that day on I could tell we would be best friends.
