Now that the gang had been arrested and the killer discovered, there was a need to know who the other person - Olu's boss was.
Sitting in front of the gang's leader, Samuel wanted to try and see if he could gain the identity of the remaining person.
"From the recording, Olu said he had another boss aside from you." He began straight to the point."Do you know who it is?" He asked.
"And what makes you think that I know?"
"You don't know?" Samuel still not convinced.
These gangs had this loyalty to each other that not even the police had."If I did I would have taken action. Wouldn't you?" He asked Samuel.
Samuel was convinced now that he didn't.
"Look Johnson. Can I calk you that?" He asked, "its really important we find this mystery man."
He didn't respond.
"If you have any thing to say, now is the time."
"I am sorry I can't help you with that."
Samuel sighed and stood up. He looked at Johnson then turned and started walking away.
"Wait." John called him back, "I think you need to know this.""What is it?" He asked turning around anxiety written on his face.
"Did you know that before you captured us we got a call from here telling us about it?”
Samuel wondered where he was referring to.
It couldn't be the station.
"Where is here? Do you mean.....?"
"Yes. I meant this station."
Samuel was at a loss for words. He couldn't believe that an officer would be part of a gang.
"And it has to be someone very close to the case and you." John added."It could be anyone in the station."
"We got the call probably few minutes before your arrival."
"Truly the person didn't say. We just assumed it was from here since the caller knew about your activities."
Who could it be?
"Most of my men were with me." Samuel said to himself.
"Then it has got to be among those remaining." John told him as he heard what he said.
It was the medical examiner and three other deputies that were left behind."I need your cellphone. Which is it?" Samuel asked as they confiscated their cellphones.
"If you need a cellphone then its not mine. It is Francis'."
"Which is it?"
"The Lenovo A1000. I am sure the number would be on the call history."
Right then Jane walked in on them.
"Sorry for the interruption...." She began, "...but our men on stand at the hideout arrested three more members of the gang."
Samuel looked at john.
"I thought we arrested all of them.""I guess we didn't." She replied looking at john too.
"Stop giving me that look." John began, "You didn't expect to find everyone there."
Samuel sighed and leaned a little.
"Are there anymore of you?" He asked.
"Those are the last of us."
Samuel called the police on stand to come take john to his cell. He was then left with Jane.***
Samuel thought of how he would find the guy now that he had the cellphone. He couldn't think of anything. He thought of calling the number but he could not to answer. He had been told previously that the number was the last call made before their capture.
The number he didn't even recognize. He knew most of his men's numbers but this one he didn't. There was no way for him to succeed; so it seemed.
Still pondering on it, Jane who was seated beside him looked up and saw him deep in thought.
"Sam!" She said his name tapping him.He got pulled out of his thought instantly.
"Yes? What?" He asked.
"What is the problem this time?"
"Uhm....do you have any idea of who was left behind on the day of the mission?"
"The....medical examiner and two other deputies. I guess." She turned to look at him, "why?"
"Hold on. I need to make a call." He just told her.
He brought out the phone and checked the call history as instructed. Most of the numbers had names - save for one.He guessed it was the one he was looking for. He said a silent prayer then dialed the number. The number rang a few times before the call was answered.
"Who is this?" Samuel asked.
For a few minutes he heard nothing from the other side.
Then...,
"I should be asking you that." Came the reply.
It was understandable that he didn't recognize him because Samuel used his own cell.
"Someone that really wants to meet you." Samuel said.He tried to study the voice if he would recognize it but he couldn't. Luckily, his cellphone automatically recorded the calls he made and received. He looked sideways at Jane who was seated quietly beside.
"I was told you trade in clothes. So I was wondering if we do business together."
That was a lie.
"Who told you that?"
"I am sorry I can't divulge their identity."
Samuel heard him scoff and he smiled.
"Now listen whoever you are. I don't know who told you what or what they told you. I am not the person you are looking for."
And he hung up."That's rude." Samuel murmured to himself.
Jane laughed as she heard him.
"What is funny?" He asked her.
"Its just you said he was rude."
"So?" He asked giving her a confused look.
"I just thought you were also rude calling a person and making up things Like that and funny."
"Tsk tsk tsk" he clicked his tongue shaking his head.
"Get anything?" She asked him seriously.
"Not unless you regard his voice as something. Then no.""Do you think we would be able to catch him?" She asked him.
"It is possible."
"What are the chances of that ever happening."
"Slim to never" he said sighing in the process.
"When did they put the first hearing for?"
"It is gonna be in two days."***
It was very late in the night and Adriana was still with Ben. He suggested she stay. And to his amazement she accepted. Malik had gone home earlier leaving them alone.
"Where do you keep your blankets?" She asked.
"My room. Why?"
"Well i want to sleep. It is past my bed time."
"Oh really?" He asked
He smirked as he thought of something naughty."You are going to help me with it because I am injured."
She smiled at that.
"Well lead the way."
They both went to his room. When he opened the wardrobe she saw that the blanket was huge. She couldn't possibly carry it on her own. And he knew that. Even he couldn't carry it on his own now he was injured. If he wasn't injured he would carry it.
As it was the first time of being in his room, she was fascinated by it. The room was huge. It was painted blue and housed a king size bed. The wardrobe was large and the amount clothes it contained was amazing. She also suspected the bathroom would be magnificent. She promised she would check it and see.
"I couldn't possibly carry this on my own." She told him pointing at the blanket.
"Don't worry. I am here to help."
"But your wound." She protested.
"It will be fine." He reassured her.
So they both began pulling the blanket. It wasn't budging. It seemed something had wedged it. They continued pulling still.
Whatever was wedging it let it loose and still pulling it caused the both of them to fall on the bed. They both began laughing at themselves. It was funny. Adriana tried to move and found that Ben was on top her. She froze. They both froze. But Ben recovered quickly.
"You know I kind of like this position."
"Me too." She agreed, "But we need to sleep."
Ben had other things than sleep in mind.
"Should we do it?" He asked smiling.
She rolled her eyes at his statement and smiled.
"Sleep. I am feeling sleepy.""Okay. Just one kiss. Just one."
She thought about it for a second.
"Just a kiss. Nothing more."
So he kissed her and lingered for a while then pulled back.
As he began pulling away she pulled him back to her.
"Don't stop."
He kissed her again and this time she responded. She put all of herself into the kiss. Ben realized that he was fumbling with her clothes and stopped.
"Don't stop." She told him again.
And this time he didn't.
