With a forced bounce in my step, I slid down the banister. Rubbing my sweaty palms against my black acid-wash jeans, I made sure to calm my breathing. I wore a crop top with lips and fangs, and splashy Blood printed across it, the text as graphic as the word itself. It was ironic, a vampire screen-tee, worn by a werewolf girl.

Upon sliding down the banister, I hopped off and bounded to the kitchen, my black military boots scuffed noisily against the wooden floors as I walked. They were old and worn but sturdy. I passed the threshold of the kitchen and automatically plastered a fake smile.

Danny Heart, my older brother,soon-to-be-alpha lounged at the kitchen isle, scarfing down a giant bowl of Cocoa Puffs.

"Hey, ugly." He greeted in that nonchalant gruff voice of his.

I rolled my eyes. My hand brushed over my left hip just to reassure myself that the holster containing my glock  was where it should be.

I made an attempt at keeping my smile, but it shrunk a couple molars, a cross between that and a smirk, " We all know I got the good looks in the family."

I caught the glimmer of sharp jade hues rolling through the curtain of messy obsidian hair. Scrunching my eyebrows I did a double-take when I noticed how grungy he looked in a black hoodie and torn jeans, paired with Doc Martens with laces spilling on the floor. We may be related but damn were we a contrast.

Where my skin was alabaster, his was dark olive, where my lips were plump and pink, his were slimmer and colorless, where I was shortish and lithe, he was taller and athletic. Where I dressed to impress, he dressed without giving a damn.

However his straight and small nose along with his God-given high cheek bones were one thing we had in common. That and identical cocky smirks, as I've been told countless times by many who've spent some considerable time with us.

"I know I'm hot, but my own sister checking me out?" His lips quirked into a lopsided smile and he shuddered.

I scoffed and laughed, "Not much that I'm seeing. So, how's Lucy?" I asked changing the subject. I hadn't seen his mate in a while but then again I was always out, so I could've just missed her.

A genuine smile broke out that lit up his features, I missed those days when I used to do the same.

"She's doing great. She came over yesterday and is asleep in my room."

I cocked an eyebrow knowingly. "Did you get any?"

A tinge of red creeped up his cheeks, my brother, embarrassed. "You know she wants to wait until marriage." He kept his tone even, but I definitely hit the nail.

I laughed, "I know, man. It sucks dad won't let her move in until after the ceremony."

Lucy was from another pack when my brother found her in one of the meetings where packs come together and even though he was being promoted alpha rank, my father wouldn't bend the rules for him. So the ceremony was a go before she could be bonded to our pack.

At first she was unsure about the ordeal, but on finalizing her choice, everything's being set-up for the whole big party. In the mean time, Danny was gonna have to wait. The bonding ceremony would be hard for her, severing the tie she had with her old pack and forging one with ours but in the end it would be worth it.

"Were you out hunting?" There was the way he asked it, as though this were the highlight of my day. He often questioned me on this particular topic; listened as I went about each mission, even encourage me to add details and keep a blacklist as some kind of memento or something. His eyes would take this admirable glimmer, and he'd have this look that one would give a child one was proud of. Odd.
