Adriel's P.O.V
The darkness of the night cloaks my figure as I walk down the grassy slope to the overlooking cliff, the breeze waves my hair as I walk down. I stand overlooking the water below, the waves crashing against the walls, and sigh against to the air. 'Why did they put us here and they get to be over there' The words crash around in my head as I stare into the empty blackness that holds the normal people. The Island of Mutations is what they call us and I don't understand why we can't just be with them. A rustle of a bush next to me startles me out of my thoughts and I look over and see a figure walking out and away from me quickly. The cloak on them sways as they walk and I'm entranced by the agile moves from a person with such a long cloth covering them. 'Oh how I wish I could call out to that person. To just say hello' As the sun emerges from behind the mountains, I rush back home to my palace of hollowed out trees.
I arrive to the trees the moment my mother steps out onto the patch of almost dead flowers.
'Where have you been?!' My mother signs to me furiously. I nod my head to the cliff and her face softens a touch. 'Ok sweetie, but now go sit at the table, The Toungeless have brought us a special breakfast' I nod again and run upstairs to my room and change into my daily wear. It consists of dresses the colors of; white, lavender, pearl pink, baby blue, and black with white crescents. I slip on my white dress and I braid the thigh length, light strawberry blonde locks of hair and weave flowers into them as I place the bark hair pins to hold the stray. I slip into the leaf flats and gracefully walk down the stairs. I sink into the cherry colored chair and twirl my chin length bangs around my finger as I wait for the food to arrive. The Toungeless stumble into the room holding sliver platters and I immediately smell grease. They set the platters on the table and walk back into the kitchen. I pull of my top and am amazed with the sight of perfectly cooked bacon.
'Where do you think they found this?' I sign to my mom and she shrugs. I dig into the meal without a second thought and stand when I am finished. I wave to my mom as I leave out of the narrow door and instead of going to the cliff, I head to the village. I stroll down the hill and to the village center. As I walk through the village I am greeted by many people. Usually my kind of people are never seen but I am different, I like the people in the village and I like knowing that it is normal for them to see me. I walk around the little shops people have and I stop to see the flower woman, Clairice, she's older than me but she seems to have more in common with me than anyone else. My family included. 'How are you today?'
'Hey Adriel, it's normal, I guess. Haha the only thing normal about here is this, this conversation everyday.' I smile.
'Any new flowers today?' Clairice shakes her head and I nod then wave to her as I keep walking down the village center. I walk around, signing and mouthing to people as I go and I keep going until all the shops are closed and its well past dark. I walk down the now familiar patch of grassy area but stop when I get to a garden of beautiful flowers. I lean down and brush my fingers against one and smell the sweet aroma. I start to pluck it but I look up to see a small cottage, hidden by a few trees. I figure that these are the persons flowers and I go up to the door to ask if they are selling, when the door flings open and I jump back startled. I look and see a face half covered by a black cloak, I see reddish dreadlocks poking out from the ends, they jump back startled also. I start to question the idea of this and the flowers when the person grabs me to bring me onto the small porch. They hold up their hand backwards, as if saying hold on, and she comes back with an older looking lady. The girl, as I soon find out as she begins talking, tells the woman that I was wondering if she was selling the flowers and I nod. The lady grabs my arm and pulls me inside and the girl runs out of the door. Later I leave the house with more flowers then I can carry and I start the long walk home, pondering who that red headed dread lock girl could be.
