Chapter 1:

The tap tap noise coming from my right was raising every hair on my body. Being the type of person I am, I was not going to be the one to have ask twice for the ass whole next to me to stop tapping his pencil. That is one of my biggest pet peeves and being able to ignore the noise was becoming harder and harder. We have a huge quiz coming up in economics and I need to pass, its not a matter of wanting to or not, and that damn pencils is still going.

My temper started rising and I could feel the color sparking up in my face and just as I was getting ready to snap a voice came over the loud speaker.

" Will Ava McCarthy please report to the main office, Ava McCarthy."

All eyes in the room darted to me and of course the ass whole to my right, being the child that he is, gives out a childish "Ooh" as I stand from my seat. I give a small smile to my teacher as he points to the pass and hastily leave the room, trying to avoid the eyes on me.

I hate attention like this.

I move fast down the endless hallway, approaching the main office doors, a place I've only even been to once, when I had a problem with my schedule freshman year. Now it's my junior year, and there calling me down, in the middle of the school year. Why?

"Hi" I whisper, not bothering to look up at the secretary

"Ava? Mr. Roberts will see you in his office, go right on in."

I look up at her only for a moment to smile and then make my way around the wide office desk to my principles office.

I stop abruptly as I spot a police officer inside the room and stay frozen as my heart drops to my stomach. What the hell is this?

"Ava, please, come in." I head into the room and move over to the chair Mr. Roberts is directing me to with his hand and I take a seat.

We all wait silently, waiting for the other to speak when finally officer whoever moves closer to me and introduces herself.

"Hi Ava, my name is Officer Jones, but please call my Laura," she pauses as I look up at her and then she continues on "I unfortunately have some bad news for you." She says as my eyes widen and lock with hers, I feel myself starting to bite my bottom lip.

"Yes?" it comes out a barely a whisper and she opens her mouth to talk, closing it and then starting again "You're dads been in a car accident Ava, he's fine, a few bruised rips and a cut above the eye but other than that everything is looking fine. He asked for me to come retrieve you from school sense your mother is out of town."

I sit, shocked and frightened, but glad he's okay. I think to myself that right now would be the perfect time to have my own car and a cellphone that actually picked up service while inside my school. Officer Jones waits for a reaction from me as I sit and think to myself and the only words that form from my mouth are "My purse is in my locker, may I get it first?"

She gives me a small smile and tells me she'll be outside waiting for me to take me over to the hospital. I rush out of the office straight to my locker and clutch onto the flimsy metal door as a few small tears escape from my eyes.

I grab my belongings swiping the tears with the back of my hand and rush outside to the waiting police car.

When we approach the hospital, every nerve inside of me tenses up and Officer Jones notices right away, "Ava he truly is alright, he's a very lucky man and he just wanted you with him until he's able to be released." She says this as she gives me a small reassuring smile and we both exit the car and walk in, in search of my father.

As we approach my fathers room I find myself getting more and more nervous and I don't understand why because I had been reassured more than once that he was perfectly alright. Me and my father have never been the lovey, daddy's little girl type, but whenever something happens to the other, we're there in a heart beat.

"Hi." I say in barely an audible whisper. He smiles ear to ear at the sight of me and opens his arm for an embrace.

"Hi sweetheart, I'm so glad you're here and that I'm alright."

"Oh daddy, I was so worried. The officer said you're a very lucky man. . . what happened?" I said as I moved from his arms to the chair placed near to his bed.

"Oh Ava it was just a silly little accident, nothing for you to worry to much about, really."

"An accident. . . So that means there was somebody else involved, right?" I stare at him waiting for an answer and then glance around and say "Well where is the bastard?"

"Ava!" he gasps "It was not just his fault, we both were distracted and trust me it could have been much worse. Yes he is being charged, but I don't blame him, accidents happen sweetheart." He says this to me with a hint of a smile and I can't help but not be agitated because he seems so sincere.

"Well. . . did he suffer any injuries?"

"I don't believe so," he said "I think my doctor said just a little whiplash, he's right across the hall, you could go look if you please."

As he says this my curiosity peaks and I rise from seat to do a little investigation. I walk across the hall to the other room and see the man and his doctor speaking. I decide not to enter as I hear the doctor say that he did only suffer from whiplash, to take some pain killers and that he should be alright. After hearing all of that I decide to head back to my father but just as I start to move the doctor walks out followed by the man behind him.

The man stops when he sees me and gives a small smirk.

"Well hello there gorgeous, what can I do you for?" He asks as my hair raises and my skin crawls.

"My dad. . . you're the one that hurt him?" I ask, pointing to my father's room and not wanting to make eye contact with this oddly handsome older man, surely he couldn't be more than 30.

"Ah. . . Well you see, that was an accident. They happen. But listen, I don't have time to play the blame game," he pauses "you're very gorgeous you know." He says as he places his hands on my chin and lifts my face.

"I am a model agent, and honey you have one hell of a look. After you're done being so absurdly mad at me, maybe you can give me a call and we can talk about your future."

I glare at him through parted eyes, you've got to be kidding me! I can't believe he has the audacity to ask the man's, whom he just has hurt, daughter to come work for him, or whatever the hell this is. He sees me start to move away and quickly shoves his business card into the pocket of my coat, winks and then walks away.

Unbelievable.

I walk back to my father and see that he is resting, so not wanting to bother him I ask the officer to take me back to my house as I'd rather wait for him there, knowing my mom will be home as soon as she can.

I walk inside my house and place my jacket over the bar chair and quickly begin on my school assignments, today has been too much. I'm never one to have to deal with such "odd" situations and I'd much rather get this crap done and head to bed and hope that maybe, just maybe, tomorrow could be. . . normal, whatever the hell that is.
