"Kimberly, Aqui now!" Kim glanced back at her once beautiful mansion one last time before she rushed to the sound of her mothers stern voice. She didn't even know how it happened, somehow she was happily sitting by her fireplace in her large living room when her smoke alarm went off and just like that her life changed for the worse. The fire was tragic nothing that was left was able to be salvaged or even refurbished, she lost almost everything.
All she had now was her hysterical mother and her baby sister who was only 4 and didn't even know what was going on. Her mother had tried to reason with the fire department but they had made sure that there was nothing valuable left behind. They could only take with them a couple items of clothing and a few pieces of jewelry that they already had on them.
Kim toyed with the pearl necklace on her neck and inwardly sighed. She didn't know where they were going to live now. Her mother assured her not to worry but she couldn't help but stress over her families well being. When her father left Kim was devastated, her families mansion was the only thing her father had left behind for them.
She tried to push the negative thoughts out of her head. She had to be strong not only for her mother but her little sister as well. She didn't know what was next for them but she did now she would help in any way she could. As they rode off in the taxi she couldn't help but reminisce about the wonderful memories she had in that house.
The many sleepovers and truth or dares that she played with her friends or the many Hispanic dishes that she made with her mom or even the many sleepless nights she had because of her baby sisters sleepwalking. It was home and now she had to find home elsewhere, she was sure nowhere else could ever be like her beloved casa but she needed not dwell on the past but focus on the present and her future.
She didn't even glance back at the once magnificent house and instead closed her eyes and dreamed of a better time when she didn't have to worry about where they were going to live or where their next meal was going to come from, all she worried about was starting high school and starting over.
