I followed my roommates towards the room, choosing to walk in the back because I had no clue how to navigate the huge building. From what I understood, dorms were on one side of the huge lot and classes were on the other. Hangouts and cafes were in between both. Sports activities were all in a different building. I couldn't believe how big the campus was. Definitely much bigger than I had expected.
When we reached a door with the numbers 748 written across, Scarlett pulled out her key and unlocked the door. I dragged a suitcase behind me and a backpack resting on my back, soon my parents would bring up more of my things when they came to visit.
The dorm was smaller than I expected, we shared a small room with a couch and tv, the basic kitchen supplies, which consisted of a small stove, oven, and fridge. There was a small bathroom at the end of the short hall, the five of us were divided into two rooms, split by boys and girls. In our room sat two beds, side-by-side, two desks at the end of the beds, and two closets on both sides of the door.
"I like this room, it's nice and cozy," Scarlet said as she placed her three bags on top of her bed. I nodded and did the same with my bags. The room was comfortable but I knew I would miss having a room all to myself, and I definitely knew sharing a dorm with three boys would be difficult for me and my lack of confidence. "When I was walking in the main hall to the office, I met these really cute sophomore boys and they were telling me about this party!" Oh no, with me that would not settle well.
Don't get me wrong, I've always secretly been dying to scope out the party seen, but I knew I was never very good at socializing. I also knew that the invitation was about to be extended to me. "I was actually wondering if you would come with me?" Scarlett looked up at me with her pleading brown eyes.
"I'm not much of the party type," let alone the socializing type. "But I'm sure you'll enjoy it!"
"Oh no! You're so not leaving me to go to this party by myself! This is how you meet all the cool juniors and seniors, and you start off the year right. You definitely have to come with me!" It was more of a demand than a question.
I leaned back onto my bed and rubbed my palm against my forehead. Not knowing how to say no, I nod my head and sigh. Well tonight was going to be a long night ahead of me. "I don't think I have anything appropriate to wear to the party." I couldn't ask to borrow any of her clothes because she was probably about 5'0 with broad shoulders, and I was a few inches taller and more narrow.
"Let me look at your clothes," Scarlett said as she reached into my suitcase and started throwing my clothes onto the floor. She pulled out a black halter top and jean shorts. "These should be fine."
I grabbed them from her hand and looked at them. Both garments looked from the summer. "Won't it be a little cold to wear this?"
Scarlett looked at me like I was crazy. "No trust me, when you're surrounded by all those bodies on the dance floor, it gets really hot in there." I pictured myself standing next to a bunch of really attractive seniors, all topless and sporting really good biceps. The thought in my mind made my eye start to twitch, something that only happened when I got really nervous. "Is your eye alright?" Scarlett asked.
"Yeah, I'm just not a great dancer."
"It's alright, you just have to sway your hips a bit and you'll be fine. Everyone will be too drunk to notice if you're really that bad!" I still wasn't sure if that was much more comforting.

Music filled the droms and was heard throughout the block. Red solo cups littered the ground, and the air smelt faintly like vodka. Many of the girls around me wore mini skirts and bikinis, the boys mostly topless. Scarlett never told me this was a pool party.
