Kayla
I am standing with my older brother, waiting for Vivian and her sister to arrive at school. My feet tap a nervous tattoo on the asphalt. The cool morning fog dissipates as the sun furthers its stretch over the horizon. Other students arrive at a steady pace, but I don't see Liz's ride anywhere. I strain my neck to see, but Mason just looks at me with humored condescension.
"Oh shut up," I say, reading his expression. "We can't all be six foot monsters."
He laughs and replies, "You could, if you wanted to. Especially with your giant heels."
"Well, I didn't bring my 'giant heels' so you can just take your-"
"There they are!" Mason cuts me off, straightening his posture.
The car pulls into the space beside us, clunking a little when it is turned off. Mason pauses, then says, "I think hiding what you did will be a bit harder than you thought." I give him a confused look and he elaborates, "She isn't giving off the aura she used to. Mom and Dad are going to notice."
A different problem distracts me as Liz gets out of the car and my heart stops.
I was a born vampire, from my mother's womb. I never had to deal with learning how to use suddenly attained powers like those bitten, nor had I ever seen a newly Turned succubus. Mom told me newly fledged succubae/incubi have their power often at full max before they learn to control it. Liz is no exception.
She looks totally different. Her hair practically glows, it shines so bright. Her eyes are larger with dilated pupils, and their size is only emphasized by the seemingly natural black, full lashes framing them. Her lips are larger and pinker, her torso more hour-glass, her chest almost bursting, and her legs long without heels.
My jaw drops and I hardly hear Liz shout, "What did you do to me, Kayla?" as she storms over to me.
Given the fact that I was already totally attracted to her, the waves of uncontrolled succubae "charm" rolling off her make my mind go blank and I have no defense. I swallow, trying to find some form of composure.
Too long has passed when I hear Liz's voice, at a higher, more sultry pitch. "It's fine, Vivian. Kayla won't hurt me. Not at school at least."
"Not ever!" How could she think I'd ever mean her harm? You did just bite her and Turn her into a vampire, the snide voice in my head thinks. "I'm sorry, Liz! Just let me explain-"
"Explain what?" Vivian rears over me. I step back against our car, nervous. I never pegged Liz's sister as intimidating, but a fire flickers in her eyes that probably would have set me ablaze if they could. "What did you do?"
Liz, unexpectedly, comes to my rescue. "Vivian! It's okay. I'll be fine. I will talk to you later, alright?"
The taller girl looks at her for a long moment before acquiescing. "Alright. We will talk though. Promise?"
Liz nods back, and her older sister reluctantly walks away. Mason hurries after her. Wishing him luck in my head, I meet Liz's eyes. Suddenly, I'm wishing myself luck.
"So..."
"What. Did. You. Do. To. Me?" Liz keeps glaring at me, but slouches over as if to hide her body from the students in the parking area. Some have taken notice of her and are staring.
Liz looks so miserable I really start to appreciate the giant clusterfuck I've made. "Let's go somewhere more private..."
She agrees quietly and we head off toward the school. Students stare as we walk past. It's unsurprising, given Liz's transformation and the aura she is putting out now. Still, a protective jealousy makes me put an arm around her and pull her close as though to shield her.
