The barking and shouts got louder and louder as the two unlikely allies waited in the darkness of the cave. They heard footsteps outside the cave. Benjamin heard Shawn shout,
"You guys go that way, I'll check the cave." Benjamin heard horses ride off in one direction followed by the dogs. Shawn dismounted his horse and walked over to the cave. Benjamin saw the light coming around the corner. Apparently, Fedor did too, because he cowered against the wall. Benjamin knew that if he had any chance of getting away, he would need the wolf, and he couldn't get help from the wolf if Shawn had a torch.
Shawn walked to the mouth of the cave. He heard nothing, but he saw a small light coming from something on the ground. It was the burnt out torch. Shawn smiled.
"I know you're in there, brat!" He said. He held the torch out in front of him to illuminate the cave. But as he did, he saw a figure start to run at him. It knock him over and the torch flew out of his hands, landing in the snow.

Benjamin quickly got off of him and dove to the side. He did just in time too, because just as he dove, her heard a growl from behind.

Fedor saw the plant fly into the snow and die. He saw his opportunity and took it. He turned, sprinted to the mouth of the cave and pounced. His victim was lying on the ground on his back and he hand was on his sharp-rock at his side. But before he had a chance to grab it out, the wolf was on top of him. In one swift motion, Fedor drove his teeth into the grown human's throat, silencing him. But before it happened, the man let out a shout of distress. Shawn was dead, but he had alerted his friends beforehand. Out of the trees came three men on horses, and four dogs. Benjamin and Fedor both ran the same direction. Away.
They were running fast, but they could hear the horses catching up. Fedor sped off in front of Benjamin. The horses were right on his tail. Benjamin caught his foot on a rocks den tripped face first into the snow. The three horses surrounded him. The circled him. The dogs barking furiously at him. His father was on one of the horses.
"We saw what you did to Shawn back there. You think you can just get away with something like that?" He yelled over the storm. He dropped off his horse, and walked over to where Benjamin was laying.
Benjamin saw the horses get uneasy. They sensed something that the riders didn't. But Benjamin did.
"I'm gonna take you back, and make you wish you'd never been born." He said. He tried to grab his arm but he never got close. A flash of fur flew past Benjamin and hit its target midair. Benjamin father flew backwards as landed on his back. Benjamin turned around, for he knew what would happen next. From the look on the men's faces that were behind him, it was worse than he thought. The horses couldn't take anymore. They knocked off their riders and took off in the opposite direction.
Fedor has taken a bite of the mans shoulder as he knocked him down, and then quickly ended his life with another bite to his throat. By this time, the dogs were on him. One had knocked him on his side while another bit his flank. Fedor snarled and bit one dog's ear while kicking another off his shoulder with his hind legs. The two others came at him now. The five animals were a whirlwind of jaws and teeth. Blood began to stain the snow as chunks of flesh were being torn. At one point, Fedor thought he was done for, when two dogs had knocked him over and the other two were biting at his neck. Suddenly, however, he heard a yelp from two of the dogs. They cried out in pain as their backs were ablaze with the biting plant. Fedor managed to get up and bite one dog on the back of the neck, when he saw the last dog coming at him from his side. At the last possible second, a bundle of light was thrust into the dogs face. Fedor released his jaws from the lifeless dog in his mouth and backed away from the plant. He watched as the three remaining dogs run off in a frenzy of light and fur. Fedor was about to make his escape, when he heard a pound crack and got a sharp gain in his side. He fell over onto the snow and couldn't get up.
One of the men had shot the wolf.
Benjamin watched the wolf fall over. He clenched his fist and turned around. He ran up to the man, who was now reloading his rifle for the final shot. Benjamin punched him in the gut and thrust the torch into his hands. He immediately dropped the gun, Benjamin quickly picked it up and pointed it at the other man, who was fumbling with his own gun.
"Drop it!" He shouted. The man slowly dropped his gun and stepped back. The other man was reaching for his knife. But before he grabbed it, Benjamin hit him in the head with the hilt. He fell over, unconscious. He pointed the gun back at the other man.
"Leave! Go! Get out of here! And take him with you!" He commanded. The man did as he was told and dragged the man on the ground with him the best he could. When they had left. He dropped the gun and rushed to the wolf's side. The wolf snarled, but stopped when he saw who it was. There was a pool of blood where the bullet wound was. Benjamin ripped off his sleeve and wrapped it around the wolf's body to stop the bleeding. The wolf growled in pain as the strip of cloth tightened. Fedor felt himself being lifted up. Benjamin carried him through the intense storm and into the small cave. He placed him there and quickly ran out into the snow. He felt around in Shawn's pockets for something to get the bullet out with. All he found was a knife and a flint. He grabbed them and went back inside. By the time he got back the cloth was soaked with blood. He ripped off his other sleeve and removed the other one. He tried to clean the wound as best he could. He took a deep breath and felt around for the bullet. Thankfully, it didn't go far, and Benjamin quickly removed it with the two tools and managed to not cut anything. Once the bullet was removed, he quickly wrapped the cloth around him. The whole time this was happening the wolf was whining, but he never moved. When everything was done, Benjamin just sat there. For two days he sat there, helping the wolf. He slept only occasionally when he saw that the wolf had fallen asleep. For the next couple of weeks, Benjamin fetched water for him, stole food from the village for him, or occasionally hunted for him. All the while, slowly nursing him back to health. Then one day, when the wolf was sleeping, Benjamin decided to go to sleep as well, but when he woke, the wolf was gone. He sat there sadly. He didn't really expect it to want to say with a human, but he wasn't expecting it to leave so soon. But then Benjamin heard a noise. He looked outside and saw the wolf walking back into the cave with a rabbit in its mouth. It walked in, and Kaye's down right beside Benjamin, happily eating its meal. When Benjamin placed his hand on the wolf's back, it didn't flinch, but instead turned its head and licked his hand.
