The next day Draco and Hermione woke up with butterflies in their stomachs and smiles plastered on their faces. Everyone looked at them like they were insane but they simply didn't care.
They had potions together that morning and they were never more eager to get to class.
Hermione sat down in her normal spot with Harry and Ron and kept sneaking glances up at the door as she waited for Draco to come in. She saw the familiar head of blond hair and she felt her cheeks flush as their eyes locked.
Draco walked in the potions room immediately finding Hermiones eyes, and he blushed. He hoped no one would see it on his pale cheeks. She seemed to be blushing too. He walked forward and past her again, winking at her. Hermione sucked in a breath and blushed. He was so hot.
She took another shaky breath and looked back down at her potions book.
"What was that?" Ron said from beside her, giving her an incredulous look. She didn't look back at him.
"What was what?" She asked in a small voice, already knowing the answer.
"Draco! Winking at you!" He whisper-shouted at her. She still didn't look at him.
"I don't know what you're talking about." She said unconvincingly, not really interested in the conversation.
"Hermione, what's going on?" Harry asked calmly from the other side of Ron.
"Nothing, nothing's going on." She said and gave them a look with her eyebrows raised saying, "try me." They let it go and turned to Snape who started talking.
Draco listened to Snape from the front of the room, his eyes wondering over to the girl sitting next to where he was standing. He seemed to find someone more interesting than Snape now. Gosh, she was ruining his life. He spaced out momentarily and came back when he saw people getting out of their seats. He quickly got up and looked at the board for the assignment. He went over to the cabinet and stood next to hermione who didnt seem to see him there yet. He felt crabbe tapping on his shoulder behind him. "Crabbe quit it." He turned his head and said quietly, giving him a death glare. He stepped back and Draco turned back around. Hermione was now looking at him when he glanced down at her. She smiled softly and he reciprocated, getting lost in her eyes.
"Ehem." Someone cleared their throats from behind them and they quickly moved forward, as they were holding up the line. They gathered their things and headed back to their seats, giving each other a look that said "i wish I didn't have to leave you."
When hermione put all her stuff where she wanted it she looked over at Harry and Ron who were giving her another "please explain" look and she just shrugged, turning back to her cauldron.
When Draco made it back to his table, pansy looked at him with such rage in her eyes that he thought she would kill him.
"Explain yourself." She said curtly, not even caring about anyone around her.
"Explain what?" He said back, giving her a look that he hoped would make her shut up. She just blew air out of her nose, annoyed.
"Oh I don't know, maybe the fact that you were eye-fucking the mudblood from the front of the room!" She said and he wanted to slap her because she was being louder than was tolerable.
"Pansy! Keep your voice down!" Draco whisper-shouted at her, getting angry himself.
"No! Not until you explain yourself!" She said and crossed her arms. She was so stubborn.
"Why do I have to?? It's got nothing to do with you!" He said and he already knew what she'd say next.
"I am your friend and quite frankly, I think we have more of a future than you and her do." She said.
"I don't like you like that Pansy! We shouldn't even be having this conversation right now! We need to start our potions." He said and turned to open his potions book but she grabbed his wrist.
"When have you ever cared about potions?" She said accusingly and glared at him like that would make him falter. She glanced to the front of the room and before Draco knew what was happening, she tightened her grip on his wrist and yanked him forward, latching her lips on his. He tried getting out of her grip but she had a firm hand on the back of his neck, fingers probably leaving bruises. This kiss wasn't exciting or even good, it was uncomfortable and they weren't in sync. He finally managed to push her back and he glanced at the front of the room. Hermione had her head turned towards them and her expression was blank. He tried giving her a "I didn't want this" look but she just turned her head back around.
He looked at Pansy with rage that could match the rage she started the conversation with. She just had her arms crossed and a smirk on her face, obviously proud of what she'd done.
"How dare you?!" He whisper-shouted at her. "You had no right to do that!"
"Yeah, uh-huh. Like you didn't enjoy it." She said and absentmindedly turned to her potions book and flipped through the pages.
"I didn't enjoy it." He said harshly and she just glanced at him nervously. He didn't acknowledge her the rest of the class.
Hermione started on her potion and while she waited for something to simmer, she decided to sneak a glance in the back of the room. What she saw was not what she expected. Draco was kissing pansy. Or she was forcing him, more like. He managed to push her off of him and he immediately looked in hermiones direction. He gave her a look but she just turned away, not wanting to get into this right now.
She dipped her head and looked into her cauldron, lost in her thoughts.
"Hermione? You okay?" Ron said carefully from beside her, bringing her out of her head.
"What? Oh, yeah. Yeah I'm fine." She resumed her potion brewing, not looking at Ron.
The rest of the day hermione avoided any contact with anyone and just focused on her work. Draco was still angry and a little nervous, but he kept up the emotionless, unapproachable facade.
Throughout dinner, pansy was even more flirty with him than usual and he turned down any opportunity she gave him to reciprocate her feelings. He kept glancing at the gryffindor table but hermione never found his eyes.
Hermione tried going back to her normal self at dinner, tuning in here in there in conversations and adding comments. It didn't feel right, though.
Once they were both in bed later that night, neither of them could go to sleep again. Once 1am rolled around, they both grabbed their wands and put on their robes, quietly sneaking out of their common rooms.
Draco made it to the bench before hermione but she was only a minute behind him. The stars were out and the moon shined brightly on the lake, illuminating the ripples in the water.
He saw movement out of the corner of his eye and he turned his head to see Hermione walking over to him from the doors. They gave each other a soft smile and she sat down beside him, leaving a smidgen of space between them. He wished there was no space between them.
"Um..." he muttered, trying to say what was on is mind. "Im s-sorry about what pansy did in potions today." His voice sounded loud in the silence around them and he cringed inwardly. "She saw us and got jealous and just....kissed me." He said softly and looked at her. Hermione had the smallest inkling that he didn't want the kiss to take place, but she wasn't going to throw the possibility out the window. She thought it over for a moment and then looked at him.
"Oh?" She didn't really know what else to say and hoped it was suffice.
"I didn't even like the kiss." He quickly said, trying to get her to understand. "It wasn't nice like kissing you." He said quietly and her eyes widened a bit. She found herself smiling before she could stop herself and closed the gap between them, their thighs now touching and noses nearly rubbing. He smiled back and looked down at her lips. They looked so inviting.
Hermione placed her hand on his thigh, never taking her eyes off of him, but she knew he liked it.
Her hand sent electric spikes through his leg and he loved it. He just wished they were sitting in a more comfortable kissing-position.....
As if she was reading his thoughts, she turned and put her leg on the other side of him, straddling his lap. She was now a little taller than him and he didn't mind looking up at her. Once again turned on by her dominance-and how their crotches were touching.
She didn't know what came over her but she didn't mind it, loving the confidence she had. She placed both her hands on either side of his neck, running her thumbs over his jawline. Gosh he was so pretty
He put his hands on her waist and pulled her a little closer-if that was even possible-and stared into her eyes. Without another moments wait, they crashed their lips together, the kiss already heated. Hermione found herself running her hands through his hair and Draco found himself trailing his hands up her sides.
Hermione scooted EVEN CLOSER to him, their bodies now completely touching. No gaps.
Tongues were soon slipped in and Draco couldn't help but let out the tiniest moan.
How could she have only kissed one guy? She seemed so experienced.
When hermione heard Draco moan, she grabbed onto his hair with vigor, trying to silence her own moan.
They were soon out of breath and had to pull away against their wills.
They locked eyes again as they tried catching their breaths, not wanting miss any second of each other.
Hermione let her thoughts stray for a moment and she couldn't help but think about the situation. Did they want to date each other? Or was it all for pleasure? She knew it was only the second night they'd met up like this, but she felt as if they already missed out on a whole day of not being together. She wanted to ask him before they went to bed, she just didn't know when that was.
Draco found himself ogling at her. I'm one lucky guy. Reality hit him in the face when he processed what he just thought. Did he want her to be his girlfriend? Possibly....more likely than not. How was he going make that happen? He didn't even know if she wanted that.
They both seemed to let their minds run a little too far and were too occupied to resume the makeout session. They just weren't up for it.
Hermione thought this was the perfect moment so she took a breath and prepared herself.
"Hey, Draco? I have a question." She said quietly. They were still so close that her breath sent shivers down his spine.
"Hmm? Yeah?" He asked and looked at her lips then back up at her eyes.
"Uh-" she laughed nervously. "Where...where do you want this to go?" She finally managed to get out. Draco breathed a sigh of relief and smiled at her.
"I mean, I wouldn't mind if you were my girlfriend." He said and she smiled back.
"I wouldn't mind if you were my boyfriend." She said and he smiled even more.
Hermione leaned down slowly and connected their lips in a soft kiss, feeling lighter than she'd ever felt before.
Draco hated what he was about to do but he knew it had to be done. He pulled away and brought it up again.
"Do you care what people will say about us?" He asked, unsure. "Do you even want to act like we're together around people?"
She thought for a second even though she already knew her answer.
"I don't care what they say about us, as long as it doesn't affect us. And of course I want to be your girlfriend in public. Who wouldn't want kiss you all day? I don't think I could handle that." She smiled and his heart soared. This girl makes him feel like a whole new person. A whole better person.
"Good."
A small breeze came through and made Hermione shiver. Draco pulled her in close to him and she rested her head on his chest, his arms around her. It felt so good to be close to him.
"I think we should go to bed." Hermione said quietly.
"You're right."
They didn't move, though. Not for another minute. But Hermione sat up and took herself out of his arms.
"I don't want to leave, but it's better if I do." She said and he just nodded. She leaned down and pecked him on the lips and turned away. He sighed.
What had he gotten himself into?
